University Of Agriculture And Environmental Sciences Organizes 3-day Workshop For Staff As Vc Harps On Capacity Development
In a bid to re-equip its workforce, the Management of University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Umuagwo has organized a three-day capacity-building workshop for its non-teaching staff.

Flagging off the workshop last Tuesday, the Ag. Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof C.C. Eze, reiterated the stand of his administration on capacity-building and development of university staff in line with Gov Hope Uzodinma’s tripod vision of rehabilitation, recovery and reconstruction. According to him, it is only through capacity- building that productivity could be enhanced.
Furthermore, the university administrator regretted that upon assumption as Acting Vice-Chancellor, he inherited a workforce that needed to be retooled, describing the situation as a case of many being called while few are relevant. Prof Eze thus identified the university as the “think-tank” of the society, that is expected to leverage on research to proffer solutions to the myriad of social ills and development needs.
Accordingly, the university Chief pledged to institutionalize the training and retraining of staff “to ensure that they are the best in all aspects of our work regime.” Thus, he charged participating staff to utilize the knowledge gained from the exercise in the development of the university.
The first day of the workshop had five sessions covering topics on health management in the university, technical writing, hostel management and sanitation, transport dynamics in a university system and issues about security. The resource persons drawn from the university did justice to the areas they covered after which staff were given ample time to react to the papers.
Earlier, the Registrar of the University, Prince Edward Nzemanze, had welcomed staff to the event, urging them to utilize the knowledge acquired at the workshop in the development of the young university. He also asked participants to constructively engage resource persons on areas covered in the workshop.
In another development, the Ag. Vice-Chancellor has charged administrative heads and staff of the Bursary Unit of the institution to cultivate the habit of accountability in the management of funds committed into their hands, adding that it is only through probity that the young university would grow.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor made these remarks last Wednesday at the Senate Chambers when he declared open a separate workshop organized for administrative heads of the university and staff of the Bursary unit. Impressed with the topical lecture delivered by the University Bursar, the Vice-Chancellor maintained that the retirement of staff operational advances must be judiciously and transparently administered.
Earlier in a lecture entitled “Understanding Financial Regulations and Developing Reports” the Bursar, Mr. Robert Anikputa made an exhaustive presentation on the rules guiding financial operations in the university, affirming that staff should be familiar with them so as to ensure accountability in the institution. The lecture elicited a wide range of reactions from participating staff, further deepening the boundaries of knowledge espoused.
