Imo CP Commissions Solar-Powered Borehole Donated by Dan Ngerem Sports Foundation to Urualla Police Station

The Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, PSC+, has formally commissioned a brand-new solar-powered water project donated by the Dan Ngerem Sports Foundation to the Urualla Divisional Police Headquarters in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State.

The project was initiated, funded and completed through the Foundation under the leadership of its Chairman, Chief Dan Ngerem. It is a major intervention in an area that has reportedly battled acute water scarcity for about 50 years.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, PSC+, commended Chief Dan Ngerem for his strategic and sustainable intervention, describing the project as a commendable act of philanthropy.

The Commissioner charged the police division and members of the host community to take ownership of the project and ensure its proper maintenance and sustainability. He also called on other sons and daughters of the soil to emulate Chief Dan Ngerem by contributing meaningfully to the development of their communities.

Also speaking, the Local Government Chairman of Ideato North LGA lauded the magnanimity of Chief Dan Ngerem, noting that through the Dan Ngerem Sports Foundation, he has continued to initiate, complete and donate impactful projects to communities in Urualla and beyond.

Speaking on the technical execution of the project, the contractor, Engr. Chibuike Onyejietu, MD/CEO of DIGS ENERGIES LTD, explained the extent of work undertaken to ensure a sustainable supply of clean water.

According to Onyejietu, the project involved drilling approximately 800 feet below sea level to ensure the availability of clean and reliable water. He added that the project also included the installation of the necessary solar-powered facilities, water storage and reticulation system to distribute water efficiently within the police headquarters and its surroundings.

Residents and other indigenes of the community expressed excitement over the development, describing access to clean water as a major relief after years of hardship.

One resident said the new borehole would save them from the stress of travelling to neighbouring communities in search of water.

“It gladdens my heart that we now have access to clean and reliable water. We will no longer have to travel to faraway neighbouring communities to fetch water.”

Speaking to the press, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO Thomas Ogugu, commended the Dan Ngerem Sports Foundation for remembering the police and addressing one of the division’s most pressing challenges.

According to him, since he assumed duty at the division, access to water had remained a major challenge, with officers and men often forced to obtain water from neighbouring communities or depend on rainwater.

The newly commissioned solar-powered borehole, he said, would significantly improve the welfare and working conditions of personnel serving in the division.

The Dan Ngerem Sports Foundation, while known for its interventions in sports development, has increasingly extended its impact to community development and human empowerment, supporting projects designed to improve the quality of life of people across communities.

For the people of Urualla, the solar-powered borehole represents more than just infrastructure; it is a long-awaited solution to decades of water scarcity and a lasting legacy of community service.
