To improve effective teaching and easy learning in Imo State, Imo State Universal Basic Education Board (IMSUBEB), in conjunction with Universal Basic Education (UBEC), have organized a Pre – Evaluation Conference for Head mistresses of Owerri North Local Government Area.
IMSUBEB noted that the essence of the conference was to call the Head Teachers together, tell them the areas of stress, weakness and improvement to encourage them to sit up as to strengthen effective teaching and quality learning in public schools.
The one day exercise was held at Orji Town Primary School, on Monday, with the Evaluator, Love Okoro Benedicta, instructing the Head Teachers to imbibe the 21st Century Global teaching method to be able to teach effectively in the classroom, observing that the global teaching standard states that teachers facilitate learning by making learners sit in 3 or 4 groups to help them discover new learning method while working together, advising teachers to counsel any erring pupil to avoid lost of focus by the learner or vice versa.
“Always give room for improvement by effective teaching to the pupils. Head Teachers are internal evaluators. Do not be armchair sitting Head Mistresses. You must set standards for your school and your performance average must be effective. The 21st century teaching standard says a teacher does not mark bad for the pupil in order not to discourage the learner from learning or running out of classroom. Do not curse, flog, beat nor scold them. A good teacher does not always go about with cane in her hand, she encourages, advises and counsels the learner in close door, makes contributions to school and community development, edification”, she maintained.

In her words, Education Secretary, Owerri North, Mrs. Ejiofor Christy, described the program as quite interesting and educating, even as she urged government to sustain the training to help teachers advance effective teaching skills.
