Supreme Court Review: Imo Elders Call for Justice ||| NEWS CORNER
Ikenna Orioha
Statesmen of Imo State under the Guild of Imo State Elders, have called on the Supreme Court to look inwards while reviewing the Imo State Governorship Election Petition ruling upon which the APC candidate, Hope Uzodinma, who came a distant forth, was declared winner.
The Elders were also of the view that measures should be adopted to ensure that justice is done during the review so that Emeka Ihedioha is restored to power as the duly elected Governor of Imo State.
This call to Supreme Court to review and restore Emeka Ihedioha to power is contained in a statement by the Guild of Imo State Elders, made available to journalists in Owerri, on Friday and signed by Professor FC Dike, SAN, Chief P.C. Mgbenweh, Ambrose Ejiogu, Engr. Charles Ugwuh, Rt. Hon Maxwell Duru PhD and Professor Jude E. Njoku.
The group maintained that it is absolutely concerned about the “well-being of Imo State and had noted the ruling of the Supreme Court on the 14th of January, 2020.
“We have unshakable belief in the Supreme Court as the greatest force for the good of the people and as such it stands at the pinnacle of other arms of government and should be above suspicion”.
The Guild further states “it is for this reason that we are pained by the avalanche of reactions both at home and abroad on the Judgment.
Imo State Guild of Elders, urging the Supreme Court to do justice in their review on Imo guber election petition for the interest of Imo electorate
“The Justices in their own words have said they are final, not because they are infallible, but will in some circumstances review their finality in the interest of society and of the Court. This takes courage which we are applauding and also pray that the best wishes and interest of Imo electorate win”.
The group said it is quite optimistic that justice would be done as the Court is not a respecter of any person no matter their status, race, background or religion.
The Guild of Imo State Elders, while hailing the Supreme Court for ruling justly and restoring the mandate of the PDP candidate in the Bayelsa State Guber Election, congratulated the Governor, his deputy including the indigenes of Bayelsa for believing in fair democracy, rule of law and good governance.
