Why Gov. Diri Embarked On Many Road Projects, Other Infrastructure Developments In Bayelsa State

The reasons behind the construction of more Roads and other infrastructural developments in various parts of Bayelsa state were disclosed to the members of the national executive of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE by Governor Douye Diri during a courtesy visit to him in his home town, Sampou in Kolokuma Opokuma Local Government Area.

The editors had retired to his home after the facility tour of some of his projects that was led by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Daniel Alobrah.

Such giant strides among which are in road infrastructure according to the governor, are either being executed or are still under construction are meant to evoke socio-economic growth, job opportunities, attract blue economy drive to Bayelsa.

Going by the large number of road projects embarked upon by his administration, Bayelsa state can no longer be described as a ‘one state’ road and more, that the development of the Metro city is targeted at decongesting the Capital city as well as to attract more investments.

In order to reduce economic hardships and poverty in all parts of the state which were caused by the recent removal of the Oil subsidy by the FG, Governor Diri came up with his palliative and interventional measures where he is empowering those in the categories of Small and Medium scale Industries with about N200,000 or more.

The Governor has made a lot of positive impacts on the people as it sounds positive to note that the Rice production project taking place in more than 38 hectares of land in Ogbia and the partnerships with other Institutions in the state are targeted at sensitizing the people of Bayelsa on those projects so that they can utilize the fertile lands in the state reported to be very suitable for Agricultural projects.

In Yenagoa, the editors had noted that before the recent transformations of the Governor, the Tombia Round-About has been reported to be a den of robbers which has been made by him to be an attractive area for a 24-hour commercial activities.

The Zipline Medicine Distribution Centre which has a reasonable number of Drones that regularly and speedily distribute the drugs to different parts of the state ensuring effective health care delivery has also continued to attract a lot of praises to the Governor.

Among the projects either concluded by the Governor or work still going on include: 22.2km Yenagoa-Oporoma Road (Southern Ijaw LGA); 10.2km Glory Drive Phase II (Yenagoa LGA); 21km Elebele-Igbogene Outer Ring Road (Yenagoa LGA); New Yenagoa City Link Road (Yenagoa LGA); Completed portion of Isaac Boro Road and re-designed; Edepie/Etegwe (Tombia) Roundabout (Yenagoa LGA); Opolo/AIT Dual Carriageway (Yenagoa LGA); Yenagoa Ring Road (Yenagoa LGA); Bayelsa Transport Terminal (Yenagoa LGA); Judges’ Quarters (Yenagoa LGA); Finance House (Yenagoa LGA); Technical College, Swali; Any of the new secondary schools within Yenagoa; Zipline medicine distribution centre at Bayelsa Palm; Bayelsa Health Insurance Scheme complex; Day Two Sat 23 Sept Departure 9am 42km Sagbama-Ekeremor Road (Sagbama and Ekeremor LGAs); 21km Nembe-Brass Road (Brass and Nembe LGAs); Imiringi Bridge (Ogbia LGA); Elebele Bridge (Ogbia LGA); Nembe Unity Bridge (Nembe LGA); Onuebum-Otuoke Road (Ogbia LGA); Ernest Ikoli Media Complex (Yenagoa LGA); NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp (Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA); Rice farm at Otuasega; Cassava processing factory at Ebedebiri (Sagbama LGA)
