Gov Ihedioha to Construct New School Structures, Boreholes in Imo
Ikenna Orioha

The Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha will build new school structures and boreholes in the 305 INEC wards in Imo state.
The Executive Chairman, Imo State Universal Basic Education Board, IMSUBEB, Professor Obioma M. Iheduru, disclosed this in an interactive section with journalists in his Office, Owerri , on Thursday.
Professor Iheduru noted that Governor Emeka Ihedioha’s agenda in rebuilding Imo State to the betterment of the people is a priority which is progressively yielding positive results given the success achieved so far within short time in office, noting that the Governor, with the help of Universal Basic Education, the National Union of Teachers, NUT and Parents Teachers Association, PTA and other academic stakeholders in the state, will heed to the laid down measures to internalize quality education in the State.
He maintained that the Governor through the Board, will be constructing new school buildings for kindergarten, primary and junior secondary schools within the 305 wards in Imo under Basic Education, saying over the years, there have been free education from kindergarten, primary and junior secondary schools.
Iheduru added that most dilapidated school buildings within the 305 INEC wards in Imo have been marked for rehabilitation while facilities would be built, stressing that the cost of the new school buildings to be constructed is estimated to over #1billon, assuring that known contracting firms are to be used in order to have quality structures for standard academics.
Emphasising that standard academics must improve, the IMSUBEB Executive Chairman, stressed that teachers with requisite qualifications “will be allowed to teach, hence the ratio will be built up by employing qualified teachers to give our children the best education. This has been the objective of Governor Emeka Ihedioha who always say he cannot play politics with quality education. He has asked those who are up to 65years in teaching to retire in order to give room to younger people to get employed”.
Harping that the state government does not have the plan to sack Community Government Council, CGC teachers employed by the immediate past government, Iheduru said those qualified among them will be retained, remarking that teachers in the state will be retrained for quality teaching.
