Partnership: Lawyers Without Borders visit Imo NUJ Chairman
A delegation of Avocats Sans Frontieres France (ASFF) also known as Lawyers Without Borders recently visited the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Imo State Council.
The team which was led by Edugie Amihere ProCAT Case Law Manager .
Avocats Sans Frontieres France/ Lawyers Without Borders France revealed that the group is an Association of International solidarity under the French law.
According to the leader of the group, the association’s mission includes to promote access to the law and fair justice for vulnerable persons Vs who are removed from it and arbitrarily detained or tortured, defend any person deprived of a free and independent defence as well as human rights defenders threatened or abused in the performance of their duties and to Strengthen the capacities to act and the autonomy of local actors in the defence and promotion of human rights.
Amihere outlined the objectives of the group to include provision of pro-bono legal aid victims of torture as well as to build capacity of stakeholders in the justice system on anti-torture mechanisms and create an effective system of protection for torture victims.

In his remarks, Chairman of NUJ in Imo Council, Comrade Chris Akaraonye expressed happiness on the visit and advocacy of the association.
Akaraonye said what the group is advocating is also in tandem with the goals of journalism.
He added that Imo NUJ will always partner them in the fight to end torture.
The association (Civil society and actors in the judicial system) is Funded by the European Union and the United Nations.
