Nigeria Decides: Election Monitoring in Imo Update(1)

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Owerri Municipal Council, has called on the electorate to go out and vote.

According to the Assistant Election Officer-Admin, Mrs Nwokenna Agatha Chile, at 8:35 am, Owerri Municipal has 3 RACs Centres for Collection of Election materials which includes Emmanuel College, Ikenegbu Girls Secondly School and Comprehensive Development Secondary School.

On visiting one of the RAC-Comprehensive Development Secondary School at exactly 8.45am, the Presiding Officer for the Centre, Mr Achubie Remigus said the collection of materials is being carefully done to avoid hitches adding that voting will soon commence in various polling booths in Owerri Metropolis.

“I assure you that in 20 minutes time, voting would start because every arrangement is been concluded here”, he said.

While speaking to newsmen at Polling Unit 003, Central School, Avu 2, at 9:20am, the Presiding Officer, Horsull Sotonye Said all the materials needed for the election has arrived but complained of tables to place the ballot boxes in order to commence voting.

The Town Union Chairman of the community, Dr Victor Nwaneri said all is in good shape and assured of the community’s corporation and strict compliance during and after the elections.

Election Observers, Party and Security agents were fully present but voting proper has not commence in Owerri Girls Secondary School polling booth and some other polling booths visited in the municipality at the time of filing this report.

The NUJ monitoring team continued to other locations in the state.
