60 Years of Togetherness: Igbo Youths Crown Mike Okiro Icon of National Unity ||| NEWS CORNER
A socio- cultural youth organization in Igbo Land, Igbo Youth Assembly Worldwide, has crowned the former Inspector General of Police, Sir Dr Mike Okiro, an Icon of National Unity and Nation Builder.
In a release signed by President General and Secretary General, Ifeanyi Nwaudunna, Eqs and Casmir Nnadozie Irekamba, Mnim, noted that the Igbo Youth Assembly Worldwide, which has been in the advocacy of national unity, peace and progress of Nigeria, deemed it fitting to crown Sir Dr Mike Okiro as the Igbo Youth Assembly Worldwide Image of National Unity.
IYA Worldwide maintained that the honour was given to the former Police Boss on merit, because of his numerous achievements in the course of building one united and progressive Nigeria throughout his career in the Police, being the first Nigerian Inspector General of Police of Igbo extraction.

The youth body said, “during his tenure as the Inspector General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force witnessed tremendous transformation in the fight against crime, protection of lives and properties, having worked so hard for the unity and peace of Nigeria.
“During his time as Police Chief Nigeria was known as a safe and secured country. Most of the units and policies of the Nigeria Police Force today were the initiatives and brain work of Sir Dr Mike Okiro, who used his positions as Inspector General of Police and later as Chairman of Police Service Commission to work for the unity of Nigeria, serving as a rallying point for Nigerian youths”.
The group added that as “Nigeria mark’s 60 years independence anniversary, Igbo Youth Assembly Worldwide celebrates Sir Dr Mike Okiro, who has made unquantifiable contributions in the sustenance of unity, peace, progress and development of Nigeria”.
The assembly “wishes him good health and long life as he soars higher in life as his name has been written in gold, which posterity will be kind to him”.
