NGE Collaborates With Unicef, Imo Govt. For Capacity Building Workshop In Owerri October 23, 24
The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), in collaboration with UNICEF and the government of Imo State, is organizing a 2-day capacity-building workshop for its members in the 9 states of the South-East and South-South geopolitical zones that make up the Guild’s Eastern Zone.

The workshop with the theme ‘THE MEDIA AS PARTNERS IN REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT’ will be held in Owerri, Imo State, on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th October, 2024.
The governor of Imo State, His Excellency Hope Uzodinma will be the Special Guest of Honour at the opening ceremony, which will be chaired by the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Paul University, Awka, Prof. Stella Chinyere Okunna. The President of the NGE, Eze Anaba will be the Chief Host while the UNICEF Representative in Nigeria, Cristian Munduate is Co-host.
The objective of the workshop is to strengthen the role of the media in addressing critical regional development challenges, including issues that impact long-term growth. It will feature expert presentations and discussions around the media industry and the socio-economic challenges faced by the region. Among the resource persons expected in Owerri are Chief Tony Onyima, Dame Comfort Obi, Lady Ibim Semenitari, Mr. Ikechukwu Amaechi, Ms. Angela Agoawuike and Ms Susan Akila of the UNICEF Field Office, Enugu.
The workshop will equip editors and media executives with the skills to report on development in a way that reflects broader regional growth and foster collaboration with key stakeholders, including governments and development partners like UNICEF, to ensure children’s voices are heard in discussions of regional development.
In this first part of the workshop, only 45 editors were randomly selected, while another batch will be selected to participate in the next program. For those selected and already contacted, arrival in Owerri will be on Tuesday, 22nd October 2024, while departure will be on Friday, 25th October 2024.
