Imo: Villagers Kill Man For Defending His Wanted Cousin
The Oleme village of Amaifeke in Orlu LGA Imo state has been thrown into mourning as some villagers beat to death, a forty (40) year old man, Mr David Ajoku for condemning evil, in the area.
According to reports, the young man did not only refuse to join the villagers in a mob action against an eighteen (18) year old boy Ugonna Benneth Uzohuo, accused of practicing Same-sex relationship but condemned them for burning the house and other property belonging to the father of the young man.
It can be recalled that a mob suspected to be villagers invaded the home of one Mr. Kingsley Uzohuo of Oleme Amaifeke in Orlu Local government area of Imo State.
They burnt their house and other property when they could not find the son of the man Ugonna Uzohuo over his accused sexual orientation.
The ordeal of David Ajoku started when in an argument in a beer parlour, he condemned the manner his people handled the matter involving Mr. Kingsley Uzohuo and his family.
He described the invasion and destruction of the property belonging to the family as a violation of their fundamental human rights as enshrined in the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; while faulting the actions of the Community who took laws into their own hands.
He decried the lawlessness among Nigerians and faulted the manner which the judiciary and Security Agencies handle matters especially when the less privileged are involved.
Angered by the stance of the young man on the matter, fight ensued between him and some of the youths in the village who used all sorts of weapons on him which resulted in his death.

Investigations which revealed that no arrest has been made to that effect, showed that Police operatives have always been afraid of carrying out arrest in the area to avert attack by the aggressive villagers.
The Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) Orlando Ikeokwu when contacted admitted that the Imo state Police command had received the report but would swing into action to arrest the situation.
The development is coming eight years after Ugonna Uzohuo left the village to escape jungle justice over his alleged sexual orientation.
Mr. Kingsley Uzohuo, the father of the boy who is now at large out of fear, had proved that his son could be innocent of the accusation but that the villagers wanted to punish the young man because of his refusal to replace their dead Chief priest and serve their deity “Arusi Ogidi.”
The man vowed not to allow his son born on 14th October, 1992 to abandon his education and serve the deity even though his family has been badly displaced by the action of the villagers.
