Imo NUJ Lauds Daddy Hezekiah Over Support for Journalism Profession
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo State Council, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma, JP, has commended the Chancellor of Hezekiah University and renowned cleric, Most Rev. Daddy Hezekiah, OON, JP, for his unwavering support to the union and his commitment to the growth of the journalism profession.
Comrade Nwanguma, made the commendation during a courtesy visit to Daddy Hezekiah at his residence over the weekend. He described the revered cleric as a dependable partner of the union whose contributions have significantly impacted the media profession in Imo State.
According to the NUJ Chairman, Daddy Hezekiah’s spiritual guidance, encouragement, and fatherly support over the years have continued to strengthen the union, especially during challenging periods.
He urged stakeholders and well-meaning individuals to emulate the cleric by supporting journalists in their constitutional role of informing, educating, and setting the public agenda for good governance.

Responding, Most Rev. Daddy Hezekiah expressed his deep affection for the journalism profession, assuring members of the union of his continued prayers and support.
He advised journalists to uphold the ethics of the profession by resisting any form of blackmail or unethical practices, regardless of financial inducements.
“Journalists should desist from blackmailing individuals no matter the temptation of filthy lucre. Such actions have consequences and can undermine the integrity of the profession,” he said.
Speaking on the security challenges facing the country, the cleric lamented that insecurity was taking a heavy toll on national development.
“Insecurity is making the nation bleed because the Federal Government is misplacing priorities in its leadership approach.
If the government is sincere about ending banditry, kidnapping, and killings, it knows exactly what to do,” he stated.
Daddy Hezekiah stressed that advances in modern technology have made crime detection and prevention easier, noting that criminal elements could be effectively tracked through the deployment of surveillance technologies, trackers, and drones.
“Stopping criminal activities is not about lip service; it requires a strategic approach.
What we need is courage, intelligence, and the patriotic will to do the needful,” he added.
The cleric also commended the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, for the reconstruction and tarring of the Nkwerre–Umudi Express Road, describing the project as a significant intervention that has improved transportation and economic activities in the area.
He further appealed to the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, to reconsider the demolition of shops and business premises in Onitsha and its environs, warning that such actions could worsen poverty and hardship among affected residents.
According to him, government policies should prioritize the welfare and economic well-being of citizens while pursuing urban renewal and development objectives.
