Why Nigeria is Sitting on Gunpowder –Idiongo Tim Reveals

Recently, one could not say that he can travel by land from the southern part of the country to the North, East, and west of Nigeria with the current security situation of the country. Let’s forget about the imminent failures of the government in providing for the citizens good road network. Of course, Nigerians know that poor road networks are part of government promises.

Where I see a lacuna in the government of Nigeria is that the channel of communication has been bridged, which has cut off the masses, grass rooters from the government that should be their own. We are all saying that democracy is the government of the people, for the people and by the people. Is that not history? Where a government fails to apply the necessary formula in running its affairs, it fails woefully. Already, the structure of the government has collapsed completely.

The Shannon & Weaver model of communication should be best described as a formula that politicians should adapt to run a government. In a democratic government, power comes from the people. The people send a message from the bottom to the top and the top sends a feedback but in Nigeria the top only sends a message. The failure of our leaders, politicians to pay attention to the people are the MAIN causes of the uprising, agitations that we are witnessing in almost every part of Nigeria, ranging from lack of employment; which is very key to the growth of a progressing government. Young and vibrant minds now choose cyber-crime, ritualism and drugs. Does it look like it will stop, No, Yes, or we should keep watching like we always do.

The buildup of Boko Haram during President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration was the genesis of insecurity challenge in Nigeria when he was appealing and soliciting for cooperation from Nigerians but the politicians turned it into a party politics, politicizing the security situation of the country, the height of it all was when over 300 girls were abducted and the wife of the president was crying and calling on Nigerians to wake up but the all-knowing comedians took it up and made fun of her.

The insecurity situation developed wings and birthed herdsmen/herders, bandits, full kidnapping/rituals, et al, now unknown gunmen. Nigerians only heard on the news that billions were budgeted for this and that, only when the crisis ‘in quote’ had already taken place. Now insecurity in the country is at the maturity stage and when something is said to be matured, we all know what it means. Will you agree that the participation of ONE Nigeria is less that 40%? Will you also agree that at least 30% of Nigerians are calling for the division of the country? Will you agree that at least another 30% are contemplating to remain ONE Nigeria? And at least 30% are preparing for an opportunity to deny being a Nigerians.

The truth is simple and we are the one to say the truth to ourselves. You can’t say that Nigeria is not sitting on a gun-powder ready to explode. Can you help Nigeria now or are you still watching? Unarguably, there’s a lot of mistrust among us, in government circles and the family circle. Could it be said that we have offended God and Satan has taken over completely the affairs of Nigeria.

We need prayers as some quarters have mentioned and not protest which will amount to further breakdown of law and order, loss of innocent lives as well.

We are religious people, our religious leaders should as a matter of urgency come out and call their subject to order, advise the politicians against kidnapping, assassination, ritualism, in churches, mosques, clubs, societies and whatsoever denomination a person belongs, there’s urgent need for all hands to be on deck, Individuals should stop stealing government funds, the retrieval funds should be used to put up something for the masses that could save the present and future generation. Let’s renew the moral standard in our children, else we perish.
