UPDATE ON EMEKUKU EZESHIP DISPUTE: Court Adjourns To October 27, Also Missing of Constitution Page Sparks Controversy
A Magistrate Court sitting in Owerri has on Thursday last week adjourned the matter on Emekuku autonomous community Ezeship dispute brought before it by one Calistus Ejeshi Amadi-Obi to 27th of October, 2022.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Stella Joe, told the counsels to the plaintiff
and the defendants to relate as to ensure they keep to the date of the next sitting.
In an interview after the court sitting, the counsel to the
defendants, Barr. Kenneth Uzoamaka, told newsmen that the ‘Out of Court Settlement’ on the case which bothers on impersonation of
Ezeship Stool of Emekuku Autonomous Community did not yield positive results at the initial stage even though the matter had not commenced fully for hearing.
“The allegation is yet to be proved. Both parties have not met
one-on-one. The court required that they go to the Rev. Fr. at their
parish. But the Priest, Stephen told me that both parties should be present for the peace accord to be fruitful”, the lawyer maintained.
Speaking to journalists, the first defendant, Prince (Nze) Reginald
Obi stated that he is the right heir to the throne and having been elected by the elders of the Royal family (the Principal members), who relied on the age long traditional due process of the Obi Royal family through which process I emerged the crown prince and the Eze elect saying ‘‘that notwithstanding, I am the first son of Eze Peter Ugochukwu Obi III whose stool is in contention. Furthermore, I am older in family hierarchy than Callistus Ejeshi who is an age mate to my immediate younger brother, Nze Bruno Obi, who is third in line to me in my family lineage as well as a defendant in this case’’.
He went further saying “The plaintiff, Ejeshi is being economical with the truth of the issue at stake between him and the Emekuku
youths.
‘’There is no how I can impersonate him since I am the true Eze-elect of Obi Royal Family. He, Ejeshi is a product of dubious replacement exercise that took place at the end of Governor Okorocha regime and was properly cancelled by Hon. Ihedioha, who succeeded governor Okorocha as the governor then’’.
In another Magistrate court sitting in Owerri, presided over by Mrs Adaego where Calistus Ejeshi who is claiming to be the Eze and his group are facing charges of forgery of both the constitution of Emekuku and unauthorized appendage of signature for the late Eze Ugochukwu Obi, the matter was also adjourned after the controversial missing of one of the pages of the suspected forged constitution of Emekuku autonomous community.
