PCRC officials call for elections, sanity of committee
Officials of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Zone 9, have called for the conduct of elections into leadership positions in the zone.
Our correspondent reports that the zone is made up of Abia, Ebonyi and Imo states.
The officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that the elections were long overdue and needed to be held to sanitize the committee in the zone.
They said that the delayed election, among other issues, had “disconnected the zone from the national grid “.
Our correspondent who spoke with the officials reports that the constitutional tenure of the zone’s chairman which should have expired eight years ago has continued without legitimate explanations.
They said that having served out a four year term, an election should have been conducted to either have the incumbent chairman, Mr Collins Obi, get a second term or be replaced by the winner of the election.

They however frowned at Obi’s continued failure to organize an election eight years after the expiration of his term , an act which has seen him remain in office unconstitutionally.
In a reaction, Obi however said there were no issues although a few persons may feel disgruntled when their personal expectations are not met.
Obi, who did not comment on the delayed elections, said that he was working closely with the national leadership of the committee to satisfy the yearnings of its members in the zone.
“ We have no issues. The wife of the Inspector-General of Police just left Umuahia but you know that in every organization, there are disgruntled persons “, he said.
When contacted, PCRC’s Southeast Vice Chairman, Mr God’stime Okafor, declined comment.
