World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2023: Network for Advancement of Vulnerable Persons Calls for Action
As the world commemorates the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2023 on July 30, Network for the Advancement of Vulnerable Persons requests governments, parents, law enforcement, public services, Religious bodies, Traditional Title Holders and civil society Organizations to intensify their efforts towards ending human trafficking.
The theme for this year’s observance is “Reach every victim of trafficking, leave no one behind,” which highlights the need to address the alarmingly developments and trends identified by Network for the Advancement of Vulnerable Persons related to human trafficking.
Human trafficking is a thriving illicit trade that destroys the lives of millions of vulnerable people worldwide, particularly women, children, and marginalized communities. Despite the progress made in recent years, the scourge of human trafficking continues to be a pressing global issue. The COVID-19 pandemic, cashless policy and severe hardship caused by inflation has also exacerbated the vulnerabilities of people, thereby making them even more vulnerable to trafficking and exploitation.
Network for the Advancement of Vulnerable Persons calls on governments to develop and implement measures to prevent human trafficking, actively identify and proactively support victims, and hold perpetrators accountable.
Parents and communities must also be empowered to detect and report cases of trafficking and educate their children on the dangers of trafficking.
Law enforcement agencies, public services, and civil society organizations must collaborate more closely to protect individuals and communities from exploitation. They must work to raise awareness, increase access to support services, and foster inclusive developments models that address the root causes of trafficking.
Network for the Advancement of Vulnerable Persons recognized that tackling human trafficking requires a concerted effort from all stakeholder’s!. Its call for action on this year’s World Day Against Trafficking in Persons!
This is an appeal to everybody to remain vigilant and energetic in the fight against the illicit trade.
