The key to Save Nigeria Forest Lies in the Hands of Hunters –Obasanjo
By Chika Uju…
The former president of the federal Republic of Nigeria, chief Olusegun Aremu Okikiola Obasanjo GCFR recently, disclosed that the key to safeguarding the Nigeria Forest lies in the hands of the Hunters because they already mastered the various forests in their different localities.
Obasanjo who was interacting with the Services in his Hilltop presidential library Abeokuta,Ogun State while receiving the Commander General of NHFSS expressed his happiness that for the first time in the history of the country, Hunters nationwide came together under one umbrella and are speaking with one voice and rise up to the security challenges of the nation especially taking over the security of the ungoverned spaces which are the forest.
In his words, “I can remember in those years when petroleum pipelines were being vandalised by unknown people every now and then, I took it upon myself, having seen the efforts put in place by some group of volunteers and patriotic Nigerians under the umbrella of Nigeria Security and Civil Corps (NSCDC) to officially handover the security of that line to them and today, that area is well managed by them. Now, if the king of the forest which are the Hunters under the umbrella of Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Services( NHFSS) now rise up to the challenges then it means that there is a future for our dear country Nigeria)”
He charged them to always protect the unity and peaceful coexistence of the citizenry of Nigeria.
Speaking further, Obasanjo assured the Services that he will do his best to ensure that the prayers of the Services is answered.
Earlier in his speech, the Commander General of Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Services(NHFSS) Amb. (Dr.) Joshua Osatimehim appreciated the former president for welcoming the Services like his own newly born baby.
He informed him of the achievement recorded by the Hunters since inception and that the only hurdle remaining to cross is the president Mohammadu Buhari’s Assent.
The Commander General urged chief Olusegun Obasanjo to use his good image, name while in office as the former head of State and president respectively to advise president Buhari GCFR on the need to assent the Bill of the Services into law.
Other highlights of the visit includes induction of the former president and his appointment as the national Patron of NHFSS.
