The happiness and joy of Nkwerre people knew no bounds as members of Nkwerre Aborigines Union, NAU, Owerri Branch celebrated their End of Year and Get-together party with Thanksgiving and merriment on Sunday, December 11, 2022.

The Get-Together and End of Year programme which started with a Thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Of The Transfiguration Of Our Lord, CATOL Owerri, culminated in a party of merriment at the NAU hall, Ama Wire, Ugwu Orji, Owerri Imo State with notable sons and daughters of Nkwerre in attendance.

Speaking at the occasion, the Men’s Wing President of Nkwerre Aborigines Union Owerri Branch, Dr Frank Onuoha said the event is aimed at returning all Glory to God Almighty for seeing them through the year’s activities and as well evaluate their programmes for positive adjustments in the coming year.

Dr. Onuoha charged the members of NAU to uphold the virtues and objectives of the Association while calling on yet to register people of Nkwerre to do the needful to reap the dividends of Nkwerre Aborigines Union as “the Association is to promote peace, progress and unity amongst Nkwerre sons and daughters”

He said, “it has been love, care, peace and unity from the beginning to the end of the year’s activities in the Union”

He expressed appreciation to the organizing Committee members for doing a wonderful job towards the occasion as well as the launching of the Union’s bus and uniform a week earlier.

“I always tell my members to continue participating actively in Nkwerre related activities…They have been very supportive and I ask them to continue to give us that support and those who have not registered; I encourage them to register because there are alot of benefits as we also assist our members especially those that are in need and distress”

Addressing the people at the occasion, the Women’s wing President of Nkwerre Aborigines Union Owerri Branch, Barr. Oby Anyikude thanked God for His mercies for the year as well as the Men’s wing and members for their support and commitments in the affairs of the union.

Barrister Anyikude extolled the Executive women describing them “as very co-operative executive who is listens to directives”, while congratulating the award recipients for making it through the nomination.

She advised all to embrace peace at all cost and all time, stating that “It is good to live in peace as there is no need for rancour”, adding that “Together we can stand; united we stand and divided we fall”

“I thank the women for improved attendance and doing what is needed from them accordingly”

Speaking also, one of the awardees, Lolo Betty Nkechi Uzomba who was described as a dedicated fellow, said the event was to appreciate God for His Mercies in the year 2022 and as well pray for His continued blessings in the forthcoming year 2023.

Lolo Uzomba expressed appreciation for the award given to her while describing the occasion as elegant and one of a kind.

Another awardee, Mrs Comfort Osunwa, who expressed joy over the award said the “Get-Together” is marked yearly to thank God and seek His face for a new year while evaluating the Union’s project for the year.

Mrs Osunwa said the objectives of Nkwerre Aborigines Union which is centred on togetherness is poised to fight for the welfare and rights of members and called on unregistered women to join NAU while being good and peaceful wives and ambassadors of the union.

A member of NAU Owerri Branch, Mr Sunday Ejike Maxwell said he was so happy to witness the day to appreciate God for leading them throughout the year and to note the remarkable progress, development and innovations in the union which include launching of bus and uniform among others.

Mr Ejike said the importance of NAU to people of Nkwerre Local government area cannot be overemphasized as it serves as a family and big umbrella to accommodate all at all times.

He enjoined unregistered people of the area to join as soon as possible in order not to miss out.

The highlights of the event were joyful dancing of all and sundry to Nkwerre cultural tunes at the ceremony, enlightening talk by Mr Goddy Nwaneri and award presentations to distinguished members of the union.

They award recipients are: Ambassador Chika Uju as “Odenka Nwanyi”; Mrs Ijeoma Azuonwu as “Odiuko na Mba”; Eziada Gladdys as Ada Ji Ugo”; Lolo Betty Uzomba as “Ugo Ji Ulo”; Lolo Ukaigwe as “Ugo Ji Ulo” among others.

The “Odenka” Award of Ambassador Uju which described her as a “Golden Lady” is said to be in appreciation of her immense contribution to the union and “For being the Chairman of the NAU fundraising and Award Ceremony”

Also, the Women’s wing President, Barrister Oby Anyikude
was in a grand style decorated and awarded “Agu Nwanyi Ji Ugo”, describing her as an Astute leader, Educationist, Innovator and Entrepreneur who has all it takes to be reckoned with and honored as such.

Barrister Anyikude alongside other awardees thanked the organizers and members of the union for finding them worthy of the honours and prayed for God’s blessings.

Earlier, the fundraising event for the Union’s bus as well as showcasing of NAU customized uniform as Organized and Chaired by Ambassador Chika Uju was held on Sunday 4th December 2022 at Kelani Event Centre Owerri.

NAU over the years have been known for their unity of purpose, being their brother’s keeper at all times as well as giving back to society through free medical outreaches.

The members of Nkwerre Aborigines Union however held a minute of Silence in respect to late Nze Ukaegbu Afoaku, Pauline Ihedioha, Christian Akpunonu, Felicia Otuokere, Bonny Akabuogu and other departed male and female members of the union, and prayed God to grant their souls eternal rest.
