As Father’s Day is marked internationally, Hon. Okereke Godson Bishop, the Leader of Owerri Zone Niger Delta Region and the Special Adviser to FUTO Vice Chancellor, has deeply congratulated fathers.

In a release signed and made available to the media in Owerri on Sunday, Okereke observed that a responsible father is not rated by the weight of his finance, but via hisbemotional nurturing, guidance, deep and rich commitment to the wellness, wellbeing and development of his children including his spouse and other members of his family.

While reflecting on “International Father’s Day: The True Meaning Of Fatherhood”, Okereke emphasized that to be a good father is the greatest investment any man can make, saying fatherhood requires some qualities such as emotional intelligence, patience, understanding and the willingness to listen and learn alongside the children.

He advised fathers to always show love to their children and wife to have a wonderful home, remarking that tolerance is key to a stable and happy home and would help fathers to always say no to separating or divorcing their wives.

According to Okereke, “the notion that a good father is defined by his financial wealth is a misconception perpetuated by societal expectations. However, being a good father encompasses more than just providing material support. It involves emotional nurturing, guidance and a deep commitment to the well-being and development of one’s children.

“A remarkable example from my community, is a school teacher at Okpala in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, who began his career as a primary school teacher, facing numerous financial and societal challenges, remained focused in achieving his goal and building excellence through the training and development of the children in his care.

“Through the teacher’s dedication and hard work, he was able to provide his children with the guidance and support they needed to succeed. Today, in his early 70’s, his children have grown to become respected professionals in their respective fields. His first son is a medical doctor, second son, an engineer, third son, a lawyer and the fourth son, a soldier. His youngest daughter is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in financial management. Father influence and commitment to his children’s upbringing can have a lasting impact on their future success”.

Okereke who is a role model to young people and a homeperson, stressed that to be a “good father is indeed the highest investment any man can make as fatherhood requires certain key qualities, including emotional intelligence, patience, understanding and a willingness to listen and learn alongside one’s children. A good father is also consistent, reliable and dependable, providing a sense of stability and security for their children.

“By embodying these qualities, fathers can build strong relationship with their children based on trust, respect and open communication.

“As someone who values hard work, dedication and personal growth, I believe that fatherhood is a journey that requires effort, love and commitment. Young people should recognize that their future is shaped by the choices they make and the effort they put into their relationship and personal development.

“As the saying goes, “your bed is what you make out of it” and this is one thing that no government can do for you. Ultimately, the responsibility for building a fulfilling life and raising the next generation lies in the hands of individuals and their families.

“Being a good father is not determined by financial wealth. Many fathers, without substantial financial resources, are still able to provide the love, care and guidance that their children need to thrive. The true measure of a good father lies in his commitment to his children’s well-being, his emotional availability and his efforts to be a positive influence in their lives.

“By recognizing and valuing the diverse contributions of fathers, we can work towards a more inclusive understanding of what it means to be a good parent.

“If a radical comrade like me can be in love and make a good home without a single thought of divorce, what are you waiting for? SAY NO TO DIVORCE AND BUILD A HOME TODAY”, Okereke maintained.
