Imo Govt Advises Citizens on Flooding

People living in flood prone areas of the state especially Oguta AND Ohaji local governments are alerted of imminent flooding between the end of June and the beginning of September this year.

Reports from the office of the National Security Adviser, United nations office , NIMET and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in charge of Humanitarian Affairs, indicate that the Niger –River Basin traversing the Republic of Guinea , Mali, Niger  and Nigeria will experience flooding within the period due to forecasted downpour.

A release from the office of the Secretary to the Government of Imo State advises traditional rulers, leaders of flood prone communities and local government councils of Oguta and Ohaji/Egbema to mobilize their people to take precautions, including relocating to higher grounds.

It further urges them to minimize activities in the River and take urgent steps to avoid is of lives and property associated with such flooding.

The release enjoins Local government and Communities to ensure that gutters and flood paths are cleared and desilted.
