Guild of Newspaper Reporters seeks healthy Partnership with Ministry of Information

Guild of Newspaper Reporters, GNR, Imo state Chapter, a legitimate media group recognised by the state and national leadership of NUJ as well as Independent, Newspaper Publishers, INPA has promised to establish a healthy partnership with the state Ministry of Information.

Chairman of the Guild, Mr Chucks Nwokeji made the promise when the members visited Imo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Declan Emelumba in his office in Owerri.

According to the leadership of the Guild, the courtesy visit was to interface with the Commissioner on issues of interest, timely information as well as information dissemination to bridge the communication gap yearned by Imolites.

Imo GNR noted that the lacuna is somewhat demarketing the efforts of the Shared Prosperity Administration across the state, and has deprived reporters of true information about the activities and programmes of the state government.

Evangelist Nwokeji who charged members to criticize constructively however noted that it is unprofessional for journalists to pass votes of no confidence among other unworthy acts.

Nwokeji commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for his developmental strides, adding that he had given road networks in the state a facelift hence the economic growth across the state.

His words; “We are also proud of what Governor Uzodimma had done in the area of road construction because it has a lot of benefits even in the transport sector”

“Governor Uzodimma deserves commendations in road construction. You can’t talk about economic development without talking about roads because everybody uses the road to go about their businesses”

The Reporters Guild Chairman also lauded the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Emelumba for his warm reception of the members as well as acknowledging GNR Imo State chapter and the role journalists play for development of society.

Addressing the reporters, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Emelumba stressed the need for professionalism to always take the front seat in media practice, while charging the reporters to always uphold the truth in their reportage.

His words “all I ask all journalists is to report the facts as you see them and not fabricate any one”

Hon. Emelumba while pinpointing the numerous programmes and completed projects of the Shared Prosperity administration; extolled Governor Hope Uzodimma for his achievements, describing the Governor’s feats in all sectors of Imo economy as the true dividends of democracy.

In the foregoing, the Information Commissioner charged members of Imo GNR to change the ugly narratives known with some personnel in the industry in order to project both the guild and members in good light.

According to him “I urge you to sustain the momentum of your organisation. Show you are a responsible journalist with address and training”

The highlight of the function is the photoshoot of the Guild of Newspaper Reporters, Imo state chapter with the the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Hon Emelumba.
