To ensure the preservation of human rights in the police governance process, a civil society organization that works on Police reforms and justice, CLEEN Foundation along with her constituted Women, Peace and Security-State Multi-Stakeholder Implementation Monitoring Committee (WPS – SMIMC) and Administration of Criminal Justice Law State Level Working Group (ACJL-SLWG) have called on the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso to address the pockets of human rights violations around the rank and file of the police.

Speaking during the advocacy visit to the Commissioner of Police facilitated by CLEEN Foundation, on Thursday, the Program Officer of CLEEN Foundation, Chinwendu Anozie appreciated the Police Command on the good works they’re doing to addressing insecurity and other forms of security challenges in the state.

She urged the CP to wade into the compliants of citizens on torture, ill treatment, arbitrary arrest and malhanding of suspects. “We call on you to assist in closing the human rights gaps especially working to assist in the administration of criminal justice law/platforms”.

She did introduce the WPS SMIMC and ACJL committees and assured that they will continue to work in partnership with the Police to offer structural support.

In his response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso noted that the Command is open to partnership that addresses the provisions of order and security to the people of the state.

He said, “The administration of criminal justice law begins with the police because we arrest, investigate, prosecute and send culprits to correctional service”.

He pointed out that the police has set machinery in motion to discipline officers involved in extortion of motorists and violations of human rights.

“Police cannot be seen to dehumanize the people they should protect “.

He committed to working with the committees and CLEEN Foundation to further the ideals of a better community by providing professionalism in the police system. He urged the public to always appreciate the services of the police and do hear from the horses’ mouth in the perception they have of the police.

He assured all lawful citizens to go about their businesses because the state is secured.
