The Cancer Advocacy Foundation established by Dr Chinomso Dozie made the call in a road walk across Owerri, Imo state capital on Saturday, October 18, 2025 while marking 2025 World Cancer Day.

The street awareness which was made round Douglas, Wethedral and Bank roads by the foundation alongside other health and critical stakeholders in the state including members of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Imo state Council harped the risk factors, symptoms and management of Breast, Prostrate, Lung and Cervical cancers as Imolites expressed appreciation to the group for the holistic message of love.

Speaking about the day, the Chairman of Hearts and Roses Cancer Advocacy Foundation Board, Professor Ikechukwu Dozie, who is also the Vice-Chairman of Kingsley Mbadiwe University noted that the day; roundly described as “Pink October” is a month earmarked by the World Health Organization to create awareness about breast cancer disease hence the founder of the foundation who is a Cancer Survivor, Dr. Chinomso Dozie decided to give back to society in love, dedication as well as appreciation to God Almighty for His mercies.

Prof. Dozie
“It is a worldwide thing so we are simply doing what is being done all over the world just in Nigeria now being celebrated by the Hearts and Roses Cancer Advocacy Foundation which was established by a breast cancer survivor, Dr Mrs Chinomso Dozie”

Prof Dozie and the Founder, Hearts and Roses Cancer Advocacy Foundation, Dr. Chinomso Dozie
“This is a way she is trying to give back to society by creating this awareness and at the same time, we also honour those who have been taken by the disease but most importantly let our people know that cancer is not a death sentence that once you discover it early and you start seeking treatment that you come around and you become lively like a normal life.

Prof. Dozie charged all and sundry to always go for checkups, and follow all medical advice on what to avoid, discontinue and start doing to fight cancer head-on in society.

“We need our people to be conscious about seeking, going for health checks from time to time. Because that’s the only way you can discover when something is going wrong.
“Annual checks, once a year for those who are 40 years and below, and maybe twice a year for those who are 50 years and above, to be able to see if something is happening to the body that is not right. And then the doctors can take it from there.

“So we advocate early checks, annual checks from time to time”, Prof Dozie concluded as the members of the organisation further expressed their goodwill messages to the public.
