Take a Journey down the lines of the poem and know better the exposition and way forward to BREAK THE CHAIN…..
Break The Chain
I am a slave in my fatherland
Denied full right over leadership
Regarded unclean from a sacrificial linage
A forbidden slave from an ancient shrine
From an ancient culture I have become a taboo?
Isolated among the great tribe of Ibo
Ostracized and kept in a dark forest
I hear no one but murmuring trees.
I have become an outcast in my fatherland
Over the fetish ritual of my ancestors
Discriminated over the Osu cast system
Hated and rejected among my people
How have rituals of my ancestors become my sin?
Why am I punished over an ancient rule?
Am I still a son of your soil?
Why deny me access to my choice of spouse?
I am believed to bring calamity upon my people
Seen and recognized as a part of an ancestral deity
In a world of Christendom and love
Indeed my people are Christ like
I cry to my people and rulers of the land
Never to continue but break the chain
Let my generation be free from bondage
Equality before my people I seek.
