Meningitis ‘A’ Vaccination Flag Off: Perry Njoku Encourages Mothers on Prompt Immunisation of their Children

To keep children healthy and out of Meningitis ‘A’ and other deadly infectious diseases, Mothers have been encouraged to promptly immunise their children.

The encouragement for mothers to always vaccinate their children to live healthy always, was made by the Executive Secretary, Imo State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Chief Dr Perry Njoku, in an interview with journalists, during the Flag Off of Meningitis A Vaccination Campaign and Feed a Child Program, by Her Excellency, Lady Ebere Emeka Ihedioha, held on Thursday, at Umuneke, Ngor-Okpala local government area headquarters, Imo State.

Dr Njoku, who added that prompt vaccination of children between the age of 1, 5 and 7 would make them live healthy, advised parents to often ensure that they feed their offsprings with nutritious food as fruit, vegetable and others.

He reflected that “the Flag Off of the Meningitis ‘A’ Vaccination Campaign/Feed a Child Program by Imo State First Lady, Ebere Emeka Ihedioha, organized by Imo State Primary Health Care Development Agency in Collaboration with Office of the Wife of the Governor, Imo State, National Health Care Development Agency and Partners, was successful and timely as it would afford mothers the opportunity to immunise their children because healthy children breeds healthy and wealthy society”.

Njoku who lauded Her Excellency for encouraging mothers to often ensure that their children, of age 1, 5 and 7, are protected against Meningitis ‘A’ especially through the health program, thanked Governor Emeka Ihedioha for paying Counterpart Fund that qualified Imo State to be able to access the Meningitis ‘A’ Vaccine for children, reminding that immunization is a preventive measure which is not suppose to elude children, so that they remain healthy, psychologically and physically fit to sustain the society while living comfortably .

Flagging Off the health care program, Lady Ebere Emeka Ihedioha, emphasized that nutritious food prevents meningitis and urged local government area authorities to ensure that the vaccine reaches the children who need it, noting that vaccination holds at the Health Centers at the localities, saying more flag off of the program would continue next year.

Meningitis is a dangerous infectious disease that affects the coverings of the brain and spinal cord. It is usually caused by bacteria, having symptoms as high fever, severe and persistent headaches, stiffness of the neck, vomiting, drowsiness, lack of appetite, discomfort or sensitivity to light, and it is not caused by witchcraft and spiritual problem.
