GOMEP Condemns Abduction of Over 40 Pupils in Oyo, Demands Immediate Rescue
ThankGod Emeh…
The Guide of Online Media Editors and Publishers (GOMEP) has strongly condemned the abduction of over 40 pupils, students, and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing the incident as a horrifying attack on education and humanity.
In a press statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of GOMEP, Tochukwu Eluwa on , the organization expressed deep concern over the worsening insecurity across Nigeria and the increasing attacks on schools and rural communities.
GOMEP also condemned the reported killing and beheading of one of the abducted teachers, describing the act as barbaric and unacceptable in any civilized society.
“This barbaric act is not only an attack on innocent Nigerians but a direct assault on education, humanity, and the collective conscience of the nation,” the statement read.
The media body lamented that children who should be in classrooms learning for a better future are now living in fear in the hands of criminals, stressing that the latest incident once again exposes dangerous security gaps across the country.

GOMEP called on the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Oyo State Government to ensure the immediate, safe, and unconditional rescue of all victims still in captivity.
According to the organization, Nigerians are tired of repeated incidents of kidnappings, killings, and bloodshed without lasting solutions, urging authorities to move beyond mere condemnations and take decisive action against insecurity.
GOMEP further urged government authorities to strengthen security around schools, particularly in rural communities, to prevent future attacks on educational institutions.
The organization also appealed to community leaders, traditional rulers, religious bodies, civil society groups, and citizens to support efforts aimed at tackling insecurity and protecting vulnerable communities.
“The protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government, and this responsibility must be carried out with urgency, seriousness, and accountability,” the statement added.
