Bad road condition threatens Nekede-Ihiagwa Communities, renders residents homeless.
The major dividends of democracy and evaluation of a responsible and responsive government is the provision of social amenities for its citizens and where it fails to, it becomes a major break down in the scheme of things.

The indigenes and residents of Ihiagwa autonomous community in Owerri West Local Government Area, Imo has decried the bad state of the Nekede-Ihiagwa road and call on the government to come to their rescue.

Bad state of Ihiagwa road
The people of the area who made their feelings known to News Corner news crew who visited the area described the road as a death trap that will soon cut off the community from the rest of the state if not solidly re-constructed.

An indigene of Ihiagwa community, Reverend Charles Diala said the road is nothing to write home about especially when it rains as people living close to the roads are rendered homeless by flood.

He pointed out the absent of gutters in the road construction as a major problem and called on the state government to come to intervene and construct a quality road that will stand the test of time to the users and in particular students of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede and the Federal University of Technology, Owerri instead of yearly constructions.
Mrs Peace Okafor who is a resident and business owner in the community said the deplorable state of the road has affected everybody living in the area as both the motorists and pedestrians finds it difficult to use the road.

Shops locked out by flood and lack of drainage system
The shop owner added that her business has automatically collapsed because the access road to her shop has been cut off by the state of the major road.
Also speaking, a road user, Mr. Friday Eboh blamed the deplorable state of the road on the construction company for not constructing drainages initially which is supposed to take flood off the road ways.
He also frowned at the reckless manner commercial and heavy duty-vehicle drivers make use of the road which is barely a year old but called on the state governments to do a thorough reconstruction of the road before it gets worse than a death trap.

The Poly-Ihiagwa road as it is popularly known is the only access road to the two federal institutions (Federal Polytechnic Nekede and Federal University of Technology, Owerri) in the state now appears to be campaign gifts and major items in manifestos during electioneering.
It would be recalled that the road in question was done in 2016 and 2017 in fulfillment to promises made to the indigenes before and during the 2015 elections by politicians and following the widespread protest of students of the two institutions in 2016.
