South-East NUJ Zonal Secretary admonishes journalists, lauds Anambra Council ||| NEWS CORNER
The Zonal Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, for Zone C (South East), Comrade Eze Adiuku, has lauded members of Anambra State Council for their conduct during last Friday 24th January, 2025 Council election.
Comrade Adiuku who represented the NUJ National Secretariat in supervising the election, praised the peaceful conduct of the election and congratulated the re-elected Council Chairman, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu and all the new executives.
He further charged Union members to unite and provide full support to the newly elected leadership, reinforcing the importance of cooperation in advancing the Union’s interests.
The Zonal Secretary who is also the Acting Vice President of the Zone, commended the Credentials Committee (Electoral Committee) headed by Dr. Stanley Onunkwor for carrying out the assignment with dedication.
He added that at the appropriate time, the Odogwu led executive will organise a by-election to fill the other vancant positions in the State Working Committee (SWC).
The election results shows that the incumbent Chairman for NUJ Anambra Council, Comrade Odogwu of Correspondent’s Chapel had 173 votes to beat his opponent, Ngozi Obileri of ABS Chapel who got 40 votes while Comrade Chibizo Obidike of ABS Chapel got 168 votes to beat Ogemdi Odoemena of Living Christ Chapel who got 45 votes to clinch the position of Treasurer.
Comrade Beatrice Onuchukwu, of the Correspondents’ Chapel, was the sole candidate for Vice Chairman, while Dr. Okechukwu Onuegbu, of the Correspondents’ Chapel, ran unopposed for Secretary. Comrade Chinyere Vera Ogbuagu, from the State Information Chapel, was the sole candidate for Assistant Secretary, while Grace Onwukwe of State Information Chapel emerged victorious without opposition for the Financial Secretary position. They were all returned elected.
The oath of office was administered on the newly elected NUJ executive officers by Barr. ES Nonyelu while Certificates were presented to them by the Zonal Secretary, Comrade Adiuku.
The new executive will be in office for the next three years.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu expressed gratitude to the Electoral Committee, voters, and observers for ensuring a smooth process.
He also thanked the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, and other key figures for their support to the Union.
Odogwu promised to prioritize the welfare of members and continue strengthening the Union during his second term.
The election was witnessed by Comrade Emeka Humphrey Nwafor, Anambra State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress and immediate past NUJ Vice President for the Zone, Comrade Emma Ifesinachi.
