NUJ CWC Urges Political Parties, Politicians, Media To Play by the Rules, Reacts to Other National Issues
ThankGod Emeh.
The Central Working Committee of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ CWC, has urged political parties and their actors as well as the media to play by the rules and ensure a level playing ground for all and sundry in the build up of the 2023 electioneering process.
The mandate of the CWC of the NUJ to the trio is contained in a communique issued by Communique Committee members Zare Baba -VP Zone E, Ladi Emmanuel -National Internal Auditor, Lynn Adda -Trustee Zone E and Akorede Opeyemi -Assistant National Secretary at the end of the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held at the Osborn La Palm Hotel, Abakaliki-Ebonyi State on Sunday 29th May, 2022.
The meeting which was presided by the National President Chief Chris Isiguzo had in attendance all the members of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Union.
Conclusively, the CWC after extensive deliberations on the state of the Union and the Nation in general, tasked the media to be objective in their reportage as well as continue being a strong ally in the institutionalisation of a strong and vibrant democracy “while providing equal opportunities and level playing grounds during campaigns by aspirants”
The CWC appealed to the Federal Government to take urgent measures to end the lingering strikes of University and Polytechnic lecturers to enable Students return to their classes in the overall interest of the Country.

The National President, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Chris Isiguzo, the National President of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Comrade Ladi Bala, and other members of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of both organisations on a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr David Umahi, at Government House, Abakaliki.
The Committee at the meeting decried the worsening state of insecurity across the Country and called on both the Federal and State Governments to provide adequate security in public and private schools to safeguard students and pupils.
The CWC equally called on the government to proactively address unemployment in the country while “noting the astronomical rise in unemployment and poverty among Nigerians almost on daily basis”
According to the communique, “the meeting applauds the Adamawa State House of Assembly for passing the Media Enhancement Bill into law, and therefore appealed to the Executive Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiru to assent to it as doing so will provide a template for the survival of the media industry in the state and Country at large”
CWC expressed concern over the inability of the State Councils to remit check-off dues as and when due and therefore mandates the National and Zonal Officers to always impress on them to regularly remit their check-off dues to the National Secretariat.
The meeting while commends the Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi for dramatically transforming the state through the provision of socio-economic infrastructures, expressed appreciation to the governor for hosting the CWC meeting and “enjoins other state governors to emulate the Ebonyi example”
