Staff of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, have been charged to indulge in Cooperative Society, so that when they retire from public service they would have some thing to fallback on without solely leaning on their pensions and gratuities.

This charge was given by the Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri, Engineer Dr Michael Chidiebere Arimanwa, who was represented by Dr Mrs Antonia Nwosu, Deputy Rector, Administration, during an In-House Training Workshop, organized by Cooperative Thrift and Loan Society, CTLS, Ltd, Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri, held at the School’s 1000 Capacity Auditorium.

The Rector, who dwelt on the topic of the Workshop “Pre- Retirement Planning, Managing a New Beginning”, stated that “the need to have a Workshop of this nature cannot be overemphasized as Staff need to start early to plan their lives.

“It is apt. In fact, it is improper planning that leads to untimely death of most Staff immediately after retirement”.

While formerly declaring the Workshop open, the Rector encouraged every staff particularly young ones to take the Workshop seriously as time waits for no body, saying the young ones stand to gain more from the program as they have ample time to plan ahead for their retirement.

“Welfare of members is a top priority of their administration hence Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri is in no doubt one of the most viable cooperative societies in the nation, and if the society must continue to move forward, it needs the cooperation and support of all members to forge ahead”.

Speaking on “Planning For Retirement, Managing a New Beginning”, one of the Resource Persons, Dr Angel Mike Folorunso, told the participants to plan ahead of their retirement so that when they disengage from active public work they can feed properly, saying thinking well, being psychologically and physically fit will help them to live successfully.

The Workshop which is meant to last for four, 4 days is enriching, informative and educative as participants went home happily.
