Imo Police poised for enhanced police-community partnership

The Imo State Police Command has indicated commitment to enhancing police-community partnership that tends to nip crime and criminality in the bud in the state.

This was canvassed during the critical Stakeholders’ Security Summit held on Tuesday in New Owerri, Imo State where critical community partners focused on enhancing the safety and security of the area.

The summit, hosted by the newly posted Divisional Police Officer, CSP Safiyanu Usman Gwarzo, attracted the attendance of Traditional Rulers, government officials, business owners, youth leaders, PCRC Chairman and residents of New Owerri, Imo State.


The interactive session provided a platform for participants to share concerns and propose practical solutions that will improve the peace and security of New Owerri for sustained economic growth.


In his address, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso represented by the DC Operations, DCP Hamzat A. Abdulkadir, underscored the importance of community engagement in securing lives and property in New Owerri.

He emphasized that security remains a collective responsibility and called for sustained cooperation between the Police and members of the public.
HRM, Eze Dr. Lucky Okoro, who represented the Eze Imo, Eze Dr. E.C. Okeke. Eze Okoro lauded the initiative, describing it as timely and crucial to the security and development of New Owerri, and assured the Police Command of the continued support of traditional institutions.


Also in attendance were the Area Commander, Owerri Urban; the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Intelligence Department; AC X-Squad; and the recently promoted Chief Principal Security Officer to the Governor, ACP Shaba Gboyako Adamu.

They all stressed the importance of enhanced collaboration, intelligence-driven operations, and mutual trust as essential pillars for a safer Imo State.


The Command reiterated its unwavering commitment to proactive policing and community partnership, and urged all residents of New Owerri to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies with credible and timely information.
In his submission, the Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists, Imo State Council, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma JP lauded the new Divisional Police Officer of New Owerri police division and the commissioner of police, CP Audu Bosso for proactive approach implored to tackle crime and criminality in the state.

He talked about the constitution of high powered security committee which will go a long way to protecting lives and properties within the area. “NUJ will partner the police always to ensure a safe Imo”.
