Imo NUJ September Congress: Read Communique in full
Communique Issued at the end of the Monthly Congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo State Council, on Wednesday, 11th September, 2024, at the NUJ State Secretariat, Owerri.
The Congress tagged “Special Congress” , which had in attendance over one hundred journalists representing various Chapels of Imo NUJ with students from Imo state University as guests, deliberated on a number of issues and resolved as follows:
1.Congress mourns deeply the death of Mr. Ajibade Owefoso, the South-East Bureau Chief of Galaxy TV.
2.The Congress expressed gratitude to the National leadership of NUJ led by Comrade Chris Isiguzo for chosing Imo State to host the upcoming Triennial Delegates’ Conference.
3.Congress commended the leadership of the Council led by Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma for winning the hosting right for the Triennial Delegates Conference scheduled for 26-28 November 2024, in Owerri. It also congratulated Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma for the double awards presented to him during Congress: ‘Journalism Ambassador’ Award from Department of Journalism & Media Studies Imo State University and Award of Recognition by Imo State University Communication & Media Studies Students ( CAMSSA).
4.Congress emphasized the need for all hands to be on deck to ensure a successful outing of Triennial Delegate Conference ” Owerri 2024″
5.Congress extends great appreciation to the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma for magnanimously accepting to host the Triennial Delegate Conference
6.Congress overwhelmingly applauded a philanthropist, Chief Barr Success Akagburuonye for the standard borehole with overhead tanks, he donated to the Imo Council at the Secretariat.
7.Congress unanimously adopted Barr Success Akagburuonye as Patron,decorated him as such and presented him with Investiture plaque.
8. Congress appealed for Government’s support to address ongoing hardship. Also that legislators and government officials should reach out to their Constituents as the economic hardship is biting harder everyday.
