Imo PCRC tasks police on due diligence, justice
The Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, Imo State Command has enjoined police operatives to always carry out their duties with utmost diligence to avert victimizing unsuspecting citizens.
State chairman of Imo PCRC, Chima Chukwunyere made the call Thursday on the occasion of the 2024 End of Year Party of the committee held at the Senior Police Officers, SPO’s, Mess, Police Headquarters, Owerri.
Chukwunyere who stated that the police needs support of all and sundry to succeed noted that extrajudicial torture or execution of suspects is counterproductive and undermines public trust in the police force.
Speaking on the Transit Camp, Chukwunyere said, “In 2009, I saw a female police officer changing her clothes in the open because she had no accommodation and that propelled our decision to construct a befitting Transit Camp for command in order to provide suitable accommodation for officers on transfer.
“PCRC do not interfere in criminal matters nor attempt to impede investigation process but endeavor to ensure that the affluent in society do not trample the less privilged. We also work to ensure that no innocent person is persecuted using the police as an instrument.
“We urge police to ensure that no innocent person is victimized because it’s wrong to see an innocent citizen suffer unduly for offences not committed.”
Responding, Commissioner of Police in charge of Imo, CP Aboki Danjuma commended the PCRC for partnering with the police in ensuring cordial working relationship with Imo citizens.
He remarked that apart from the Transit Camp building being commissioned, PCRC has done so much by way of constructing or renovating buildings, purchase seats and assisting with veritable information on how best to police the state.
“It’s on record that no PCRC member has come seeking personal favours from my office as is the usual case in other state commands,” he stated.
Danjuma urged the PCRC not to relent in the effort to ensure that the police and the public enjoy mutual relationship in general policing and crime control in Imo State.
In his speech, Alhaji Mogaji Olaniyan, national President of PCRC who was represented by the National Secretary, Engr. Chukwuaja David commended the Imo PCRC for the accomplishment and other impactful contributions.
“Mr Chukwunyere and his team have done their part but we need to have more of this and urge all concerned to reach out to the likes of Prince Amadi for more support to the Nigeria Police Force, NPFL.
“I charge us all today to do our best to attract well meaning Nigerians like Prince Amadi to come and support the police. We at the national level are proud of Imo PCRC and the state chairman, Chima Chukwunyere for his doggedness and pragmatic strides in moving Imo PCRC forward,” he said.
He further advised all PCRC members to always work harmoniously with the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Henry Okoye, in Imo Command describing him as humble and professionally sound officer.
