Imo at 50: Chika Uju Congratulates Gov. Uzodimma, Imolites
As Imo State marks its 50th anniversary of creation on February 3, 2026, an ace journalist and Founder of the Uju Charity and Empowerment Initiative, Lady Chika Uju, has heartily congratulated Governor Hope Uzodimma and the entire people of Imo State on the historic milestone.
Uju described the Golden Jubilee as a moment of reflection, gratitude, and renewed commitment to the ideals upon which the state was founded. She noted that, despite numerous challenges over the years, Imo State has continued to record remarkable progress and has attained enviable heights across critical sectors.
According to her, the State has witnessed commendable growth in tourism, hospitality, culture, education, healthcare delivery, commerce and industry, youth empowerment—particularly in ICT and technology—road infrastructure, as well as other developmental gains that have added value to the lives of Imolites.
Speaking during a telephone interview on Saturday, Uju, who was the APGA candidate for Nkwerre State Constituency in the 2015 House of Assembly elections, called on political leaders and stakeholders in the State to rekindle and sustain the visions and lofty dreams of Imo’s founding fathers. She emphasized that continuity in purposeful leadership remains vital to keeping the state on a steady path of progress.
She further urged the people of Imo State to continue to uphold the virtues of tolerance, love, unity, peace, and security, stressing that these values are indispensable for sustainable development, collective prosperity, joy, and harmonious coexistence among citizens.
Reflecting on her professional experience, Uju stated that working with Senator Hope Uzodimma during his tenure as Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District was a memorable and rewarding experience. She described the collaboration as a blessing to the Imo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), both individually and collectively.
She recalled that one of the lasting benefits of that period was the donation of a Hummer Bus to the NUJ during the administration of Chief Innocent Igwe as Council Chairman, a gesture she said significantly supported the union’s operations. Uju expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity to have worked closely with Governor Uzodimma, noting that the experience remains a cherished chapter in her career.
She concluded by offering prayers for the state, saying, “May Imo State continue to rise, prosper, and flourish to the glory of God. Amen.”
