Sanitation: Imolites Encouraged To Take Monthly Clean-Up Exercise Seriously

Imolites has been urged to always keep their environments clean and as well observe the Monthly Sanitation Exercise in the state.

The community leader of Umudibia community, Nekede in Owerri West LGA, Elder John Ike made the plea during the Cleanup exercise in the state.

Speaking to News Corner crew who monitored the Exercise in the community to see its success, Elder John expresses dissatisfaction with the movement of the Commuters during the exercise stressing that no one is above the law and Cleanliness is next to Godliness.

In his words “Are these motorcyclists above the law? Or are they not in Imo? the Government should put up a tax force to make sure that all hand are on deck during such an exercise”

The community leader alongside his family members who were seen in their numbers sanitizing their vicinity and pruning trees called for all hands to be on deck for a healthy living.

A native of Umuokomoche kindred of Umudibia, Honourable Chika Obe describes the exercise as a nice one and urged the people of the area to take their health seriously by cleaning up their environments regularly especially on last Saturdays of every month.

He said “You can see the shops closed down, and the residents busy, the village vigilante mounted all over to catch offenders who do not take the exercise serious ”

Hon. Chika added that the Community hosts a federal institution, so the Chiefs from each kindred equips the task force for the success of the exercise.

A participant in the exercise, Mr Emmanuel Onyema expressed Joy over the turn out of people in numbers to ensure a cleaner environment during the exercise but decried the bad state of Imo roads stating that the roadways are in a mess and needs urgent government attention to bring back the lost environmental glory of the state.

“Let our Governor work our roads. Make him no dey pursue thieves like sey tomorrow no dey, Road dey important pass Rochas case”, Mr Onyema stated.

He made a plea to the PDP led administration of Gov. Emeka Ihedioha to remember the students of the Federal institutions, Federal Polytechnic Nekede and Federal University of Technology, Owerri who ply the dangerous road daily.

A resident of Umuerim Kindred in Umudibia, Nekede, Mr Sabastine Patrick who uses Nasfat device to fumigate the environment said the the exercise in the area was well observed by the people who ensured there were no blind spots during the exercise.

“This device is used to kill mosquitoes, pests and weed, and it saves energy, risk free. As you can see this one am spraying is called force up and uproot used to kill weeds and their filial generation”, Patrick added.

Every last Saturday of the month, Imo State sets aside the early hours 7am to 10am for her residents to perform their social responsibilities in an environmental sanitation exercise.
