The youth leader also appealed to the Ezinihitte-Mbaise-born Federal lawmaker who shattered ethnic barriers to win the Isolo/Oshodi Federal Constituency seat in Lagos State not to disappoint Imo youths, while vowing to mobilize necessary support for his governorship ambition.
In his words “We would at this juncture, rise to echo and re- echo to public notice, the position of Imo youths, that based on character, youthfulness, pragmatism, traceable trademark records and taking cognizance of the zoning arrangement in Imo, we demand that ‘the not too young to run man’ -Hon. Tony Nwulu occupies Imo Douglas House come 2019 as executive Governor.”
Chukwu recalled Nwulu’s antecedents in various field of human endeavour describing him as the best and right man to lead Imo State.
The whole 35 Leaders of the youths and various student groups from across the State under the auspices of Imo Youth Renewal programme who spoke separately at the event extolled the leadership qualities of Hon. Tony Nwulu and drummed their support for him.
It would be recalled that Hon. Tony nwulu was elected Member Representing Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency in 2015 and a year after, he initiated the bill seeking to amend sections of the 1999 Constitution to reduce the age limits for eligibility for elective offices in Nigeria, known as the “Not Too Young To Run bill”, which has secured the endorsement of almost the 36 states and waiting the assent of President Buhari.
Before the initiation of the bill, Section 131(b) of Nigeria 1999 Constitution as amended requires that a person is qualified to be president if he has attained the age of 40 years. Similarly, Section 65(a&b) stipulates the ages for the Senate and the House of Representatives as 35 and 30 years respectively.
But the amendment to these sections will see the age of running for the office of the President reduced from 40 to 35 years old, just as a 30-year-old can now run for governor.
