Ikeduru Stands Still For Senator Anyanwu, as Over 3000 Opposition Party Faithfuls Defect to PDP

It was what could be best described as a political carnival when Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, the rave of the moment in the Imo November 11, 2023 gubernatorial election stormed Iho, Ikeduru on his “Thank You” visit to his people.

The scenerio could be said to have proved wrong the biblical saying that “a prophet is without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house”, as all the people of Ikeduru, men, women, youths and the children trouped out in their numbers to receive their own Senator Samuel Anyanwu at his home town Ikeduru.

Senator Anyanwu popularly called SamDaddy is the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming election.

The rally attracted the Who is Who in Ikeduru and beyond and had its highlight when over three thousand (3,000) party members from APC, LP, APGA, and AA declared their support for PDP and formally announced their defection to the party.

Receiving the decampees and all other PDP supporters, Samdaddy assured them of a better Imo state when by the grace of God he would be duly elected the Governor of Imo state in November this year.

Anyanwu enjoined the defectees to be steadfast in their support and not to waiver or be intimidated because he has a divine mandate to rule Imo state.

The PDP governorship candidate pointed out that his “Make Imo State Safe Again” mantra which is giving the ruling party sleepless nights must be a thing of reality.

He, however, cautioned them not to resort to violence or any unbecoming act that is against the rule of the game, as he strongly believes in “politics without bitterness.”

Prominent sons of Ikeduru who attended the rally include three former Chairmen of Ikeduru Local Government Area,  Chief Uche Igbokwe, Dr Anselem Opara and Chief Emma Kema, former Commissioner for Lands Survey and Urban Development in Imo State, Chief Bon Unachukwu, Chief Denis Okwu (Sweet Apple) and Chief Chris Akujobi, a retired high senior customs officer among numerous others.

It will be recalled that Senator Anyanwu’s meritorious rise to political stardom began when he was elected Chairman of Ikeduru Local Government Area where he performed creditably well.

He could be described as a good benefactor of the return of democracy in Nigeria having held public offices since 1999 till date.

As an appreciation for a work well done, his people elected him into the Imo State House of Assembly where he represented them honourably two terms with remarkable impact that made him to be elected into the National Assembly as Senator representing Owerri zone.

He has a record of not losing any election he has aspired for.

Samdaddy no doubt commands tremendous followership across Imo state and has a huge experience in politics and administration which he will bring to bear to the office of the governor of Imo state.

In an interview with newsmen, one of the decampees, chief Celestine Iwu said they were convinced that Senator Anyanwu would clinch the governorship election.

He described Anyanwu as a person with a large heart, who when given the mandate would run an all inclusive government.
