ENTRACO to Designate Bus Stops Across Owerri to Enhance Order

By Onyinyechi Nwankwo

In a move to restore sanity and discipline on Owerri roads, the Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO) has concluded plans to designate specific bus stops and terminals across the city.

The General Manager of ENTRACO, Hon. Anthony Emeka Anyaehie, disclosed this while addressing newsmen at the commission’s office in Owerri on Tuesday.

He noted that the initiative aligns with Governor Hope Uzodimma’s vision of transforming Imo into a modern, organized, and environmentally friendly city, adding that the state government is determined to ensure that order and discipline become a way of life among residents.

According to him, law and order are gradually returning as residents begin to respect regulations even as he stressed that the government’s commitment to creating a more structured and safer society is already yielding visible results, while ENTRACO continues to sustain the momentum through increased enforcement and awareness campaigns.

Anyaehie further revealed that the agency has set up a team to map out proper bus stops where commuters can safely wait and board vehicles, adding that drivers would be instructed to pick up and drop off passengers only at designated points, as part of efforts to end indiscriminate parking and traffic congestion in the city.

The ENTRACO boss expressed concern over the level of recklessness among some commercial drivers who disregard traffic lights and safety rules, noting that such actions often lead to avoidable accidents, warning that the commission would intensify enforcement to ensure full compliance.

Similarly, Anyaehie directed commercial drivers to ensure that bus doors remain properly fixed and closed while in motion to prevent mishaps.

He cited a recent incident in which a woman fell from a moving bus due to negligence, stressing that if doors must remain open, protective guard rails should be installed to safeguard passengers.

Meanwhile, the ENTRACO helmsman announced that the exercise aimed at enforcing compliance with the new directive on bus doors will commence next week, warning that any driver who violates this directive would be arrested and have their vehicle impounded or seized.

He noted that the enforcement would be thorough and consistent to ensure the safety of passengers and restore sanity on the roads.

He further charged ENTRACO officials to be disciplined and transparent in carrying out their duties, while warning that corruption and extortion would not be tolerated under any circumstance.

In his words, “all officers must reflect the integrity and vision of the Uzodimma administration in their operations”.

Consequently, Anyaehie reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to supporting the governor’s agenda of building a safer, cleaner, and more orderly Imo State.

He emphasized that while the process may not be perfect, steady progress is being made, and Imo residents are beginning to appreciate the positive changes taking place across the state.
