Democracy Day: “Reflect on Labour of Past Heroes, Shun Vote Buying in 2023” –Ambassador Uju

Imo born revered journalist and community leader, Ambassador Chika Uju congratulates Nigerians on the commemoration of the nation’s Democracy Day on 12th June.
Ambassador Uju who recalled how Nigeria’s founding fathers namely Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, Sir Tafawa Balewa among other notable nationalists fought and defended their course in order for younger generations to live up to date, urged Nigerians to love one another, be patriotic, and selfless in dealings with all in order to build on the unity of Nigeria as a nation state.
The Community leader who is also the State woman leader of Young Progressives Party-YPP, decried the way and manner political office seekers lavish money on delegates during Primaries to have their way in order to recover their money when elected, stressing that the forthcoming election should be an eye opener because of what citizens pass through in the hands of the present administration.
She advised Nigerians, especially the youths to shun vote buying; do the needful by getting their Permanent Voters’ Cards(PVC) to change the narrative as the future promised the youths is now.

“Nigerians should shun voting buying. How can one sell his or her conscience just for a bag of rice,piece of wrapper along with few thousands of naira that can not last up to a year and then suffer for 4 good years? Very ridiculous. Who does that?
“There have been sorrows, pains,raping, killing, kidnapping and all sorts of criminal vices in our land called Nigeria”
“Everyone should wake and call a spade by its name without fear or favour”
She condemned the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU strike, unemployment that has crippled the nation while pointing out that the the electorate has no good healthcare centres, no good road Networks, no power to hold onto as dividends from both the federal and state governments in recent times.
The Woman leader said the current political era is “no time for recycling of old politicians” as the era of brainwashing has to end hence the youths ought act with all sense of importance and belonging.
“Youths of Nigeria, this is the time to take your destiny into your hands if truly you are sincere to yourselves.
Stop remortgaging your destiny”
Hon. Uju also emphasized the need for every Presidential or Gubernatorial candidates to have female running mates so as to live up to the ‘women inclusion in politics’ clause as well as involve the natural home builders in the affairs of state for a transformational touch and help, adding that women are focused and goal-oriented.
“We need to have gender equality to give everyone a sense of belonging”
She went further to lambast those supporting Muslim to Muslim ticket in the Presidential election, stressing that the move is an ugly development that will spill more damage to the country.
“I equally condemn Muslim-Muslim ticket while praying for the repose of the departed who lost their lives that we may live”she concluded.
