TRUE TALK 👄 WITH THE PEOPLE’S BISHOP KENNETH OBI.

1st Edition — August 25th, 2026.

“A Dog With a Bone in Its Mouth Cannot Bark!”

Greetings, my brothers, sisters, and friends.
Welcome to the first edition of True Talk with the People’s Bishop Kenneth Obi.

Some time ago, I wrote about the theme, “A dog with a bone in its mouth cannot bark,” particularly as it relates to corruption and leadership in Nigeria.

But in the early hours of today, I was awakened with a deeper understanding:

this message is not only for politicians or government officials. It is for all of us—and especially for those of us in the Body of Christ.

What does it mean when we say, “A dog with a bone in its mouth cannot bark”?

It means that when we participate in the same wrongdoing we should be speaking against, we weaken our moral authority to correct others.

If there is a “bone” in your mouth, it becomes difficult to bark.

It Begins in the Family
As a father, how can I sincerely teach my children to live morally if I am secretly practising sexual immorality myself?
Children do not only listen to what we say; they also watch how we live.

We cannot effectively say, “Do as I say, but not as I do.” Leadership begins with example.
It Continues in the Workplace
If you are a boss who constantly arrives late to work, how can you confidently discipline your employees for coming late?

If you demand honesty from your workers while you yourself are dishonest, your words lose their power.

Leadership is not merely giving instructions. Leadership is living by the standards we expect from others.
And What About Government?

If those entrusted with public office participate in corruption, how can they sincerely tell others that corruption must stop?

When leaders benefit from the very system they are supposed to correct, the “bone” in their mouths can prevent them from speaking boldly against wrongdoing.

Bishop Kenneth Obi

This is one of the great dangers facing our society.
But True Talk must go beyond government.

What About the Church?

The Church should be a place where truth is preached, righteousness is practiced, and people are encouraged to live according to the Word of God.
Yet we must also be willing to examine ourselves.

When leaders in the Church do wrong and those around them are too afraid to speak, silence can allow wrongdoing to continue.
We must remember that no title is greater than truth.

Bishop, pastor, elder, minister, politician, father, mother, employer, employee—we must all be willing to examine ourselves before God.
Jesus taught us to first deal with the plank in our own eye before attempting to remove the speck from our brother’s eye.

In other words: get the bone out of your own mouth so that you can speak with integrity.

Silence Can Become a Prison.
There is another side to this message.

Sometimes the bone in our mouth is not our own wrongdoing. Sometimes it is fear.
Fear of what people will say.

Fear of losing a position.
Fear of losing a relationship.
Fear of offending a leader.

Fear of being rejected.
Fear of speaking about what is happening inside our homes, marriages, workplaces, churches, or communities.

When people feel that they can never speak about what is hurting them, the emotional burden can become overwhelming. Problems that should have been confronted honestly can grow into bitterness, frustration, anxiety, broken relationships, and despair.

This is why healthy, truthful communication is so important.
True Talk About Marriage
We must also be able to speak truthfully about marriage.

There are husbands suffering silently, and there are wives suffering silently. Some homes are filled with constant fighting, humiliation, manipulation, disrespect, emotional pain, or other unhealthy behavior, while the people involved feel pressured to pretend that everything is fine.

Being Christ-like does not mean pretending that destructive behavior does not exist.

It means seeking truth, wisdom, forgiveness, accountability, reconciliation where possible, and appropriate help when necessary.
Marriage should never become a place where either spouse believes that suffering in silence is the only evidence of faithfulness to God.

Sometimes we need to talk.

Sometimes we need wise counsel.

Sometimes we need accountability.

Sometimes we need to admit that something is wrong before healing can begin.

That, too, is True Talk.
Remove the Bone From Your Mouth
My message to you today is simple:
Remove the bone from your mouth.
If the bone is hypocrisy—remove it.
If the bone is corruption—remove it.
If the bone is sexual immorality—remove it.
If the bone is dishonesty—remove it.
If the bone is fear—remove it.

If the bone is a secret that is destroying your peace—seek wise and trustworthy help and begin addressing it.
Do not allow wrongdoing, compromise, fear, position, money, relationships, or titles to silence the voice God has given you.

But remember: speaking up does not mean speaking recklessly.
Speak truth with wisdom. Speak truth with love. Speak truth with courage. And before correcting everyone else, allow that same truth to examine your own life.

That is what True Talk is about.
We will talk about the family.
We will talk about marriage.
We will talk about the Church.
We will talk about leadership.
We will talk about corruption.
We will talk about injustice.

And, yes, sometimes we will talk about things people would rather sweep under the carpet.
Because a closed mouth cannot address an open wound.
And a dog with a bone in its mouth cannot bark.
There is much more to be said, but since this is our first edition, I want to hear from you.

What are your thoughts?
What issues do you believe we need to talk about?
What are people afraid to discuss in our families, churches, communities, and society?

You do not have to agree with everything I say. True Talk should create room for honest conversation.
But I believe this message is for somebody today:
Remove the bone from your mouth.

Speak against unrighteousness.
Stand for justice.
Live what you preach.
And remember: injustice against one ultimately threatens justice for all.
May God give us the courage not only to speak the truth, but also to live the truth.
Until our next edition, may God richly bless you.

Yours truly,
The People’s Bishop Kenneth Obi
