2027 : Let’s Back Tinubu, Ohakim Tells Diaspora Support Groups

Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, former Imo State Governor, Dr. Ikedi Ohakim, has called on Nigerians in the diaspora to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second four-year term, saying the administration needs more time to consolidate what he described as gains recorded in the country’s economic development.

Ohakim made the appeal while addressing Nigerians gathered at the Nigerian Embassy in Warsaw, Poland, to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

According to the former governor, President Tinubu deserves another term in office to enable him complete what he described as the good works his administration has started.

He urged Nigerians in the diaspora to encourage their fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, relatives, friends, allies and other well-wishers in Nigeria to support and vote for President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

“President Tinubu recognises the electoral value of the diaspora. We know that you people can influence electoral outcomes because your people are involved in the process. You should therefore talk to your people about the need to support and vote for President Bola Tinubu for a second term,” Ohakim said.

He also urged Nigerians at home and abroad to remain patient with the government’s ongoing reforms, arguing that meaningful national development requires time, discipline and collective commitment.

“We are here now in a foreign country, enjoying anything you can think of. Some people laid the foundation and paid the price. This is what President Tinubu is doing in Nigeria. He is laying the foundation for sustainable development for the present and coming generations,” he said.

Ohakim noted that several developed countries in Europe and America had gone through difficult stages in their development, adding that Nigeria could also overcome its present challenges through patience and perseverance.

“It is just a matter of time,” he said.

The former governor further encouraged Nigerians in the diaspora to continue supporting the administration, expressing confidence that the ongoing reforms would, in his view, produce greater benefits in the coming years and contribute to Nigeria’s socio-economic development and democratic stability.

The APC chieftain also expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s chances of securing re-election in 2027, citing what he described as the administration’s achievements and the political momentum generated by its policies.

Recalling a statement he made in Owerri, Imo State, ahead of the 2023 presidential election in the presence of President Tinubu, Ohakim referred to a Chinese military strategist’s maxim that “victorious warriors win the war before they go to the battle, while defeated warriors go to the battle and seek how to win the war.”

According to Ohakim, his prediction regarding the 2023 election was borne out by events.

He said: “Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has defeated and won the war. He is here just to thank our people in advance for the battle he has already won.

“And it came to pass. Today, here in a foreign land, I am declaring it again that President Tinubu has already won his re-election again come 2027.

“What the Presidential Campaign Council, under the leadership of my good friend and brother, Senator Abdulaziz Yari (Marafan Sokoto), should do is to showcase to Nigerians all the achievements and progress made by the APC-led government of President Bola Tinubu and allow Nigerians to decide.”

Ohakim also urged Nigerians to pray for peaceful and credible elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former governor’s remarks come as political activities and discussions around the 2027 presidential election continue to gather momentum among Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.
