100 Days In Office: FEDPONEK Rector Reels Out Achievements

The climax of the 100 days in office celebrations of the 9th Substantive Rector of Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri, Dr Mrs Basilia Igbokwe is better witnessed than imagined as the event marked a lot of edge-breaking programmes amid resounding and resonating cheers and thanksgiving onto God.
The week-long 100 days of office celebrations ended with a Thanksgiving outing at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Orji Owerri attracting dignitaries from all works of life who included the Imo Deputy Governor, Dr. Mrs. Chinyere Ekomaru, and the Member representing Obowo/Ohitte Uboma federal Constituency, Hon. Chike among others.
Members of the Polytechnic, who could not hide their joy, thanked God for His mercies and the gift of the 9th Rector, who they described as a Go-getter having achieved the landmark achievements of restoring moribund Internally Generated Revenue projects.
They, however, expressed absolute confidence in Dr. Igbokwe’s administration while assuring her of their unalloyed support to ensure even development across the institution.
Addressing the multitudes who graced the occasion, the Rector, Dr. Basilia Igbokwe noted that the “Thanksgiving service” was to return all glory to God for seeing her through the Rectorship race and restoration of the legacy projects.
Dr. Igbokwe, however, reiterated her resolve to perform beyond expectations as she assured to prioritize the People’s welfare against all odds.
“…No matter how it is, we must ensure the welfare of our staff, students, and the host communities…”
The Polytechnic Boss, noted that her vision as captured in her 11-point Agenda is to squarely transform everything in her care for better including cleanliness.
“I want Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri to be the cleanest school in Nigeria”
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Thanksgiving ceremony and member representing Obowo/Ihitte Uboma in Imo state, Hon. Chike Okafor thanked God for His enduring mercies which enabled the Rector to stand strong and record milestones in 100 days even in the face of daunting challenges.
Hon. Okafor while harping on the need for unity of purpose to lead the operations of the Polytechnic, said there is time for everything as noted in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 hence calling for cordial working relationships among all and sundry.
Key Achievements:
1. Staff Welfare and Motivation
– Payment of Staff Claims: We have commenced payment of staff claims from 2022, which will continue progressively throughout 2024.
– Staff Promotion: We have facilitated the promotion of deserving staff members, recognizing their hard work and dedication.
– Appointment of New Bursar and Registrar: The Governing Council of the institution has seamlessly conducted the selection and appointment of a new Bursar and Registrar for the institution under my watch.
– Payment of Christmas Package: We have paid the Christmas package for the entire staff in the institution, demonstrating our commitment to promoting staff welfare.
2. Infrastructure Development
– Renovation of Students’ Hostels: We have renovated and fumigated students’ hostels, ensuring a healthy and comfortable living environment.
– Renovation of 1000 Capacity Auditorium: We have renovated the 1000 Capacity Auditorium, providing a state-of-the-art facility for events and gatherings.
– Rehabilitation of PolyNekede-Ihiagwa Road: We have successfully collaborated with the Imo State government to rehabilitate the PolyNekede-Ihiagwa road, improving accessibility and connectivity to our institution.
3. Internal Revenue Sources
– PolyNek Water Factory: Resuscitated and producing drinking sachet and bottled water for our community and beyond.
– Tissue Paper Production: Commenced, with PolyNek tissue paper set to hit the market soon.
– Block Industry: Reactivated as a viable source of internal revenue.
4. Digitalization and Technological Advancement
– Launched the integration of an ICT platform, fostering seamless interaction among staff, students, and stakeholders.
– Achieved significant restoration of internet services across the campus and initiated plans for full digitalization.
– Introduced plans to incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) in administrative and academic processes to improve efficiency, effectiveness, transparency, and innovation.
– Restored the JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre for all CBT exams, ensuring that our students have access to convenient and reliable examination facilities.
5. Security and Environment
– Maintaining a clean and conducive environment remains a top priority.
– Inaugurated _Man O’ War_, a volunteer security outfit that aids campus safety law enforcement.
– Restored power supply on campus, ensuring a stable and conducive learning environment
