We Are Not In Support of Kanayo Onyemaechi’s Third Term Ambition  —Owerri West APC Stakeholders Forum Tell Gov Uzodimma

CONCERNED LEADERSHIP POSITION ON THE ZONING POSITION OF STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY IN 2027

Your Excellency, we the undersigned Leaders and Stakeholders of our great Party, APC, concerned of the need to maintain the peace, equity and brotherhood existing amongst the three (3) Clans of West LGA since its creation are constrained to appeal to you to help us ensure that the peaceful coexistence of the three (3) clans are preserved by allowing the long established understanding, sharing rights and obligations between our three (3) components Clans (ARA, OCHE and UMUNWOHA), that make up our LGA in consideration of the position of Imo State House of Assembly come 2027.

We are not in support of any 3rd Term Agenda / Ambition of the present occupant of that seat, Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi, who is also the Majority Leader of the House, because allowing him to run a 3rd term will ultimately cause too much acrimony and bring bad blood and destroy our brotherhood and understanding which we have been rotating as brothers.

For the avoidance of doubt, your Excellency, we wish to state the table of sharing of State House of Assembly since 1999:

Your Excellency Sir, from above table, you will see that out of the seven (7) terms / tenures of the present democratic dispensation, that, while ARA and OCHE Clans have both enjoyed three (3) terms each to the detriment of our UMUNWOHA Brothers who have only enjoyed the position once.

  1. That the leadership of our great Party has long resolved on the issue of zoning and rotating the position of the Imo House of Assembly (IMHA) at a well-attended leadership meeting convened February 2023 by Ara Leaders, led by late General Ogbonna, Elder Sir Levi Oguike, Chief Sir Fidel Onyeneke, late Hon. Chika Nwanesi, Hon. Prince Okey Okoro (Capito), amongst others.

Key Ara leaders appealed and begged NDE UMUNWOHA particularly, to allow Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi to go for a second term with a firm promise that they will support Umunwoha to have their turn in 2027.

  1. That again on 21st February, 2026, a well-attended Leadership Meeting held at the Council Headquarters, Umuguma, also restated the earlier agreement to zone political positions and reiterated that the IMHA will go to Umunwoha Clan in 2027.

  2. That while we as leaders at this point are not reviewing his performance or his quality of representation, having represented us for 8 years in IMHA, that we have resolved that the position should rotate to Umunwoha as agreed.

  3. That we are against Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi’s 3rd term ambition as it will violate our understanding, our peace and our brotherhood.

  4. That we hereby appeal to His Excellency, our Governor and the Leader of our Party, to intervene by calling him to order to avoid truncating the peace and brotherhood existing in Owerri West as it is against the agreement reached.

  5. That overwhelming Leaders, Members of our great Party, APC, people of Owerri West LGA, including our Traditional Rulers are all in favour of Umunwoha for IMHA.

  6. That we hereby, restate our loyalty and commitment to our Governor and our great Party, for your great infrastructural strides and for your fatherly consideration in appointing our sons & daughters into your 3R Administration.
