A call has gone to the government to solidly and timely implement policies in order to grow the mine and steel industries to boost production and strengthen economy.
This is disclosed by a University Don, Prof Remmy Uche in an interview with journalists, at the 2nd Metallurgical Industry Stakeholders Forum, held in Owerri, on Monday and Tuesday, December, 2019.
Prof Uche who is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, appealed to government to “put in place appropriate machinery to fix the mining and steel industries for optimal production and improved economy”.
He regretted, “until we get it right, we would base on importation which will lead us nowhere. For this, government should, as a matter of priority, set up a committee to review and put into motion the implementation of policies to grow and strengthen metallurgical industry”.
While frowning at the weak conditions of mine and steel industries, the erudite scholar, advised the power that be to shun lip service and equip the industries, encouraging private sector to advance their mine and steel production to create jobs to teeming unemployed graduates with reasonable pay, without even hoping on government wholly.
He also presented a Paper on “Protecting Steel Assets and Reducing Life Circle Cost”, commending the Metallurgical Industry Stakeholders Forum for hosting the memorable conference in Owerri.
