NYG 2025: 516 Imo Contingents Storm Asaba for Grand Finale

According Jassy News Online, the city of Asaba, Delta State, came alive on Wednesday as a strong delegation of 516 contingents from Imo State stormed the capital for the grand finale of the 2025 National Youth Games (NYG), Jazzy News can exclusively report.

The Imo squad comprises 398 #athletes and 118 coaches and officials, ready to fly the state’s flag in 33 sporting events out of the over 40 on the roster for this year’s #Games.

Imo’s strength and medal prospects are widely expected in darts, abula, hockey, golf, swimming, weightlifting, kickboxing, karate, scrabble, and athletics (track and field), where the state has built a reputation for producing podium finishers in past editions.

Speaking ahead of the showdown, the Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha, expressed confidence in the athletes’ readiness, citing the solid preparation and support received from the Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator #HopeUzodimma.

“Our youths have been adequately prepared for this competition, thanks to the sports-loving Governor of Imo State. We also ensured proper age verification, just as we did at the #NDSF, where Imo was the only state to field athletes within the required age bracket. I am confident Imo youths will make us proud again this time,” Onyeocha said.

Imo has already shown strong form in the build-up. At the zonal eliminations for team sports, the state clinched 9 out of the available 14 slots, a feat that underlines the depth and quality of its grassroots development program.

With the #2025NYG officially underway from August 26 to September 6, the battle lines are drawn as young talents from across the federation converge in Asaba. For #TeamImo, the mission is clear—to convert promise into podium finishes and reaffirm the state’s growing dominance in youth sports.
