NUJ Suspends Ojukwu Again …Uneze Suffers Same Fate As Union Hammer Falls On Him Too
Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Imo State Council last Wednesday 9th September 2020 suspended indefinitely the Editor-in-chief of Nigeria Newspoint Newspaper, Lambert Ojukwu over alleged anti-union activities.
Also suspended indefinitely alongside Ojukwu, is Comrade Amby Uneze of Correspondents Chapel for the same reason.
In a release by the NUJ, Imo State Council, members during their September monthly Congress (general meeting), unanimously gave a voice vote in support of the motion by Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma of Nigerian Horn Chapel that the duo be suspended indefinitely.
Speaking on the state of the Union, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma while moving the motion for the indefinite suspension of the duo, argued that; Mr. Lambert Ojukwu and Mr Amby Uneze on Monday, 7th of September 2020 at Ozisa FM insulted and maligned the National President of NUJ, Deacon Chris Isiguzo and the Imo state Chairman, Comrade Chris Akaraonye”
Also recently, despite Imo NUJ matter still pending at the court, Mr Lambert Ojukwu, Mr Amby Uneze and others wrote a petition to the police against the union. They have on several occasions published falsehood against the union, thereby misleading the general public about the union. Mr Lambert Ojukwu and Mr Amby Uneze have consistently and deliberately engaged in numerous other anti – Union activities which have put NUJ and its leadership in negative picture before the general public.”
“Be it resolved that the duo of Mr Lambert Ojukwu and Mr Amby Uneze having intentionally violated several sections of the Constitution of Nigeria Union of Journalists, should be suspended indefinitely for gross anti – union activities.”
The motion was supported by Chinedu Ohanukachukwu of People’s Hero Chapel without any counter motion.
It will be recalled that this is the second time the NUJ in Imo State is handing down an indefinite suspension to Lambert Ojukwu as he was also suspended by the union during the time of Chief Fidel Onyeneke as Chairman.
Ojukwu was the immediate past chairman of Association of Newspaper publishers in Imo State.
