OMPON Full Statement reads:
“The Online Media Practitioners of Nigeria (OMPON), South East Chapter, wishes to commend Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State for his bold and visionary proposal to establish a media village in Imo State. This initiative is a testament to the governor’s recognition of the media’s vital role in promoting democracy, transparency, and societal development.
“It is a step in the right direction, and we, as media professionals, are optimistic about its transformative impact on journalism in Imo.
“The proposed media village will address key challenges faced by journalists, including inadequate access to modern tools, limited training opportunities, accommodation challenges and the absence of a central hub for collaboration. It will provide a conducive working environment, enhance professionalism, and foster innovation within the media sector.
“Moreover, such a facility will raise the standards of journalism in Imo, positioning the state as a leader in media development and practice.
“We also note that the media village will attract partnerships from local and international organizations, contribute to the state’s economic growth. It will reinforce the credibility of the media as a vital pillar of democracy, enabling journalists in Imo State to carry out their duties effectively. These benefits are too significant to be overlooked, and we urge the governor to prioritize the swift realization of this project.

“While we applaud the governor for his foresight, we also caution against allowing this initiative to become another unfulfilled promise. The media village must not remain a mere concept; it should be implemented with urgency and commitment. We call on the Imo state government to allocate the necessary resources, involve the leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Imo State chapter, in the planning and execution stages to ensure the facility meets its intended goals.
“We further appeal to private organizations, civil society groups, and media professionals to support this transformative project.
“Collaboration and collective effort will ensure the successful implementation of the media village, benefiting not only journalists but the entire Imo state.
“Governor Uzodimma has a unique opportunity to leave a lasting legacy by delivering this landmark project. We, the Online Media Practitioners of Nigeria, South East Chapter, pledge our full support and commitment to this initiative”
