Imo SDP Decries Killings, Destruction at Eke Ututu Market
The leadership and members of the Social Democratic Party, SDP in Imo State said their attention has been drawn to the “gruesome and mindless killings and destruction of the popular Eke Ututu Market at Orsuihitteukwa, Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State on 17th day of September 2023”
The party officials as well as members who condemned the incident in a release signed by the Publicity Secretary of the party, Comrade Eze Adiuku, stressed that “For a state whose citizens are already too traumatized by the spate of killings and destruction of properties by both known and unknown gunmen, this sad incident at Orsuihitteukwa, is a killing too many”
It is sad that this waste of human lives and eventual destruction of a market which is the only market that aids the poorest of the poor in that areas and it’s environs, to eke out a living was allegedly masterminded by state actors.
Imo SDP condemns in strong terms this continued approach in tackling banditry as the poor, harmless and innocent citizens are most times, caught in the crossfire of such engagements.
As a political party that believes in the rule of law and respect for the sanctity of life, Imo SDP joins all well-meaning citizens to condemn this dastardly act.
We equally demand justice for the mourning and bruised people of Orsuihitteukwa as well as other communities that have felt the pains of state actors in this season of insecurity.
Imo SDP calls on the government to ensure there is no repeat of the killings and destruction of means of livelihoods as such is assuming a frightening pattern and may be misinterpreted.
The people must be made to see and judge for themselves that indeed the essence of government is to protect lives and properties.
