Imo NAWOJ gets new executives as Nnaji Dorothy returns as Chairman …Nnaemeka Chinyere emerges Internal Auditor
The Nigerian Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Imo State Chapter has on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, elected its new executives, with the former Chairman of the Association, Dr. Mrs. Nnaji Dorothy, Ph.D, being returned for second term.
The former Editor of Daily Nigerian Horn Newspaper, and State House of Assembly Correspondent, emerged unopposed as the Internal Auditor of the association.
Other executives of the association who emerged unopposed were, the Vice Chairman; Chizoba Opara, the Secretary; Onyinyechi Amakulo, JP, the Treasurer; Chinenye Nwadike
The election took place at the NUJ Secretariat, New Owerri, Imo State.
It is worthy of note to disclose that the current Chairman of NAWOJ, Dorothy, is the first Chairman to be returned the second time in the history of NAWOJ leadership in the State, since it’s inception for 34 years now.
She won with a landslide victory of 50 votes, as against her opponent Chika Ewurum who garnered one vote.
Reacting, the NAWOJ Chairman, Dorothy earnestly commended NAWOJians for once again giving her their unflinching support, saying, “you all have proven to me that indeed the reward for a work well done is more work. If you didn’t believe in me, you wouldn’t have given me this chance, and so I thank you all once again for this show of love.
“My utmost desire is to envisaged that Imo State NAWOJ continually progresses as should and that I and my team will consolidate on by firstly perfecting the programmes and projects we had already instituted in our first tenure,’
“Always feel free to give your constructive criticism, and to draw our attention to any issue you are having doubts about for together we stand, and divided we fall, ‘Dorothy averred’.
She further thanked his Excellency, the governor of the state, Sen Hope Uzodimma for his support and fatherly advice to the association, and for ensuring adequate security all through the electioneering period.
The Chairman also appreciated the Commissioner for Information, Chief Declan Emelumba for his assistance towards the process, and Mrs Emeghara Chinelo; the first female clerk of the state House of Assembly for supporting her dream and vision.
The National President, Mrs Ashia Bura Ibrahim who was represented by the National Auditor, Mrs Chinwe Jamila Abubakar, was not left out of the encomiums as the Chairman lauded her for her support and advise to them towards ensuring that the election was hitch free.
The National Vice Chairperson of the association, Mrs Amaka Agbor who was also present in the election was also commended.
Other dignitaries who were present during the Business Section earlier before the former executives of the association were dissolved include : NUJ South East Zonal Secretary; Eze Adiuku, NAWOJ Zonal Secretary Zone C; Mrs Doris Chioma Alex, NUJ National Trustees; Sir Innocent Igwe, the NUJ Chairman; Comrade Ifeanyi Nwangwuma, former SA to the Imo State Governor on Public Orientation and Strategy, Dr. Fidel Onyeneke, State Chairman of National Labour Congress; Comrade Chigemezu Uche Nwigwe, the DG of IBC; Mrs Ify Onyegbule, among others.
They all in their respective speeches advised the members on the need to remain united irrespective of who emerges as the winner of the election.
