NDE trains 20 unemployed persons on environmental beautification skills in Imo
The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has trained 20 unemployed persons on environmental beautification skills in Imo.
Director-General of the NDE, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu-Fikpo, said this at the flag off of the directorate ‘s Environmental Beautification Training Scheme for the year 2024, in Owerri, on Friday.
Nuhu-Fikpo, represented by the Imo Coordinator of the NDE, Mrs Theresa Nwachukwu, said the skills training, organised by the NDE’s department of Special Public Works (SPW) would take the unemployed beneficiaries out of the streets and enable them engage in productive ventures.
He urged the participants to be diligent and steadfast so as to be able to “ give back to society at the end of the training “.
Speaking, Nwachukwu thanked the NDE management for for all the directorate’s programmes which have greatly benefited Nigerians.
She said that the training would last for three months, adding that the beneficiaries would receive stipends to cover transport costs throughout the period of the training.
She advised the participants to focus on skills acquisition so as to prove their mettle and become employers of labour in future.
Also speaking, Director of the SPW department, Mrs Ifeoma Ezekwe, represented by Miss Cicilia Uhuegbu, Head of the SPW department in Imo, urged the participants to take advantage of the training opportunity to grow their skills for economic emancipation.
In a remark, the Head, VSD department of the NDE in Imo, Mrs Amaka Isaac, said the trainingwould impart skills such as floor tiling, POP, flower gardening (horticulture), hard landscaping and interlocking among others.
She advised the participants to strive to become employers of labour after the training.
Also, the Chairman, Imo chapter of the Unemployed Youth Association of Nigeria, Mr Ugochukwu Nwagu, commended the NDE and said that the training would take away youth restiveness as unemployed persons will be occupied with more important things.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Emmanuel Nzeocha, thanked the NDE for the opportunity and promised that they would strive to justify the resources expended on the training.
